Surveillance Video: Driver Arrested for DUI After Slamming Into Garbage Truck at High Rate of Speed in Lakewood

A driver was arrested and hospitalized early this morning after crashing into a garbage truck at a high rate of speed.

The accident happened shortly before 5:00 AM at the intersection of Cedarbridge Avenue and Melville Avenue.

The impact of the accident ripped the roof off the car and left the driver of the car with minor injuries.

He was transported in custody to MMCSC.

Officials tell TLS the garbage truck driver is expected to be ticketed for failure to fully stop at a stop sign.

Police are investigating.

  1. Yes. The driver of the garbage truck is clearly at fault for not coming to a complete stop at the stop sign. If he had done so, there probably would have been no accident. However, the driver of the car caused the accident. If he had been driving sober and within the speed limit, there probably would have been no accident.

Collision was definitely avoidable if the driver of the car wasn’t intoxicated and driving responsibly even if the truck driver did not fully stop before making the turn..I see a lot worse than that everyday in this town..if your going to hand out tickets based on a camera then install one at Rt.9 and central ave and see how many you can give out..people run that left hand turn signal constantly

  3. Not coming to a complete stop at a stop light/sign….police could issue a thousand or more tickets for that in Lakewood every day just need more cameras..but I thought ticketing off a camera was illegal in NJ
