  1. I cross that intersection every day twice. Every time I cross I feel like I will get into an accident. It is extremely hard to see down the road and cars are going 60 miles an hour. • 4 way stop signs are not the answer to everything. We have too many in Lakewood. I go through FIVE of them to get to work.
People just have to slow down and pay attention to the roads and a lot of accidents will be avoided.

  2. The issue is that since the Township put up a lot of four way stop signs at major intersections (which I think has helped in many cases) many people forget that this intersection is only a two-way stop. Therefore, after they come to a stop, they assume that cars going in the other direction will also be coming to a stop and they then continue on their way. But the other car doesn’t stop….

  3. Slow down, pay attention and get off your phones!!! – can’t say that enough times!

90 percent of drivers are distracted somehow.

Check this statistical fact out and you’ll understand what leads to this.

Most are distracted by a technological device (phone, Bluetooth or other).

Most assume breaching a stop sign or ripping to make a light (either because a driver ticked you off, by driving slower than normal/others, possibly cut you off or any other reason) is fairly normal and acceptable.

(Not most but plenty of) People are in a mad-dash due to anticipated road stress through Lakewood and don’t take precautionary measures creating an aggressive impulse to act negligently.

And most importantly, no one cares about others or helping to create a relaxed driving environment, as we all know times, routes and traffic patterns from this driving gridlock that Lakewood is but still manage to create our own havoc.

9 out of 10 will never stop for Pedestrians because out of the rush, are either oblivious to their surroundings or simply don’t care.

In conclusion, It’s an absolute miracle that there aren’t 100 deaths through vehicle collisions or pedestrians being hit.

This in definition is what we like to call – “INSANITY”!

  4. Gberg is not from lakewood if he’s asking that question or he just doesn’t know that 7th and ridge are the same street. That being said, there is an intersection in lakewood that only has a stop sign for one way of traffic and on the bottom of the signs are large yellow songs stating that cross traffic does not have a stop sing. How about that? Or just make Cross traffic have a stop sign as well. Not rocket science.

  5. To GBerg: it is an interesting corner regarding street names. Ridge ave ‘takes a turn’ at this corner (around the right corner of the video). Both Brook and E. 7th then start at this corner. You may notice the difference on the street sign on the opposite corner.

  6. 1) First of all notice that the fellow driving the dark car did not come to a full stop, not did he try to rush through the intersection to beat or avoid the oncoming vehicle. So without stopping, he obviously could not have had enough time to properly look for or judge the approach of oncoming traffic, therefore he obviously did not see the approaching car before he started into the intersection.

    2) Also notice that he apparently did not stay around, because the video does not show him pulling over to park immediately, and the TLS photos only show one car (unlike the last accident’s TLS report). Perhaps he slowed to check if the other driver was OK, and then left. However, this makes this a “hit and run” – leaving the scene of an accident you participate in is illegal. Perhaps he left because he knew he was guilty of not stopping, or thought her did stop but knew he would be declared “at fault” according to the law, because he had a stop sign while the other car did not.

I am curious why TLS stopped showing the surveillance video at that point, and the article did not address this issue.

So the truth is he IS at fault for two counts, failure to stop and leaving the scene of an accident he participated in.

This is WRONG, dear readers. Stop making excuses for inappropriate and reckless behavior. Stop blaming it on stress, the way road signs are written, on whether it should have been a 4-way stop or if there are too many 4-way stops in town, or dream up adding more words under each sign! Everyone should be aware that this one big word, STOP, is enough of a sign, it means YOU stop, and look out for the other guy. It makes little difference in this case if the other guy was speeding, it’s your job to obey the traffic rules and avoid accidents where you can.

YOU are responsible for the way YOU drive, and eventually you will be held accountable for the chillul Hashem you make when people, yidden or others, see your inconsiderate and reckless attitudes and behavior.

Rabbosai, let’s learn from the mistakes of others and CHOOSE to become safer drivers, and more considerate of others, on the road and off.

    • After I submitted my comment I zoomed in to the first TLS photo, and it does look like a car of the same dark color is parked in front of the police car, though I missed that at first glance. In the video there is no car on the side in front of the white house before the accident. So it looks like I was mistaken in my second point – this driver did stay at the scene and wait for the police.

My apologies to TLS for suspecting you left something out of your reporting.

However, my point is still valid, we’ve seen that behavior on the road at times, so we should all be reminded of the traffic law, not to leave the scene of an accident you are involved in.
