  1. it appears the Van was ripping down rt 88. is it the video or was this car taka flying? same with the clips of east 7th st. people need to just slow it down and drive 15-20 thru these intersections.

  2. The driver going down Rt 88 should be ticketed.

    He’s flying down the road.

Why are you driving so fast?

I wonder if we can get speed cameras to clock these guys.

  3. The driver of that van was driving like a maniacal lunatic. In order to knock over a vehicle you have to be driving at a decent speed which the video cleary indicates. Every day. Every day… Will people EVER learn…

  4. As long as there is overbuilding and people get delayed and stuck, they will drive fast as soon as they break through. Need responsible growth!

  5. Doesn’t matter how fast the van was going. Van has the right of way. It is the mini-vans responsibility to make sure they can SAFELY proceed after stopping.

  6. The minivan that was “speeding g” , to the dismay of others has the right to do so. It’s not right, but he can. He/she has the right of way. It is the minivan at the stop sign that has the responsibility to make sure it is safe to proceed.

  7. The one crossing the road does not have right of way and should’ve waited until they can see whether a car was coming. They crossed too early in an unsafe manner. I doubt the other van was driving too fast. RT 88 is a fast road.

  8. To Steve and Retired ,

According to your logic, as long as he has the right of way, then he may do whatever he wishes..?

    Backwards. Very.

Don’t speed, so that if such a thing happens you can react and avoid collision. That make much more sense.

  9. There are 3 faults here..
    1. The speeding vehicle
‘Right of way’or not we all know how busy 88 is, no one in their right mind should b going down that fast
    2. The crossing vehicle
They needed to make a responsible cross over, not sneak behind the passing van and assume the world would stop around them.
    3. CITY PLANNING
    RESPONSIBLE GROWTH
    PROPER TRAFFIC PLANNING

  10. So basically all the commentators here are blaming the speed… I’m not saying he wasn’t going fast (very hard to tell speed from a video) but the point is the car that flipped didn’t see the other car coming because there was a van in the way. The car flipped because it hit the Camry waiting at the stop sign… Did you people watch the clip??

    • well obviously before his view was blocked by the van he was able to see and make a calculation that he can cross after the van… however, if the car was speeding down the 88 then it wouldn’t help that it was all clear 2 seconds ago. not saying he was right for crossing, obviously he should have waited, but the person speeding down the 88 (if he was) wasn’t following the rules either ultimately causing a accident.

  11. Right of way or no right of way, how does a vehicle barge forth at full speed as another vehicle almost completely crosses its oncoming path, without even attempting to slow down or otherwise avoid such vehicle? Once the vehicle began entering its path, a reasonable driver that is not distracted would take precautionary action to avoid the other vehicle.

  12. @alte lakewooder: my thoughts EXACTLY! How on earth did the driver not see that vehicle when it was just about clear of the intersection?? Part of knowing how to drive is always being aware and ready for the unexpected!

  13. If 40 MPH is the speed limit and it’s not certain that it was going faster than that, then I don’t get all those comments stating that it was. I feel bad for the flipped van driver, but why has it become the norm to defend the person who got harmed even if it was their fault. Based on the rules of how to proceed after a stop sign (which anyone who took the written driving permit test knows) the flipped van basically went on a red light. You need to determine that you can make it fully across before proceeding, not go half way and see if you can make it further.

    • nothing not to get. All the comments are basically based on the fact that it looked like he was speeding. if he wasn’t speeding at the end of the day im sure a lot of people will agree the van crossing was at fault. no one is defending the person just bec they got harmed.
