SUNDAY: Minyan Shelanu’s First-ever Xreme Runner Bootcamp

xtremeBy Y.M. Marking the first of its kind, Minyan Shelanu has created its very own Xtreme Runner Bootcamp Obstacle Run. It will be a community event like no other, where all benefits go to Minyan Shelanu.

So who exactly is Minyan Shelanu and what is an Obstacle Run?

Well, let’s start with the first question – What is the Minyan? The Minyan was founded in 1999 by Rabbi Chaim Y. Abadi and continues to be one the community’s most important assets. In addition to the beautiful Bais Medrash open all day, daily minyanim, a kollel in the morning, and a vibrant night program, there is far more to the Minyan than what one observes upon walking into the building on Ocean Ave.

As we all know, there is an alarming number of teens who, all with their own reasoning, have slipped from the path of Torah life and found themselves going down the wrong path; a path that can and unfortunately has led to disaster. That is where the Minyan Shelanu comes into action. Along with their team of mentors and volunteers, they catch the child as he is falling and provide an environment where the teen can feel love and be comfortable with himself.

The journey begins by enjoying the beautiful state of the art brand new gameroom, and from there starting the process of moving the teen to the correct path uniquely tailored for each individual; whether it’s finding a job, or finding the right yeshiva, or even recommending an appropriate mental health specialist or facility, if needed.

All are welcome at The Minyan. Walk in on any random night and you will behold a beautiful scene, all types – all learning, from the many avreichim buried in the Gemara to the construction worker learning Mishna Berura to the troubled teen learning “Halacha daily” – all are sitting together in unity growing closer to Hashem, feeling at home and comfortable with who they are. It’s not just any MINYAN, it’s MINYAN SHELANU!

On September 7th, 2014, the entire community of Lakewood will have the opportunity to take part in Minyan Shelanu’s most challenging project yet. The organization has built a 5K obstacle course open for the public. Men/boys are invited to join as individuals, or create a team together with their friends as they run through countless obstacles and race their way to the finish line. The run stretches through the forest and roads around the Blue Claws Stadium. It features fun, energetic, intense, and (mostly) clean obstacles that challenge both speed and precision. Xtreme Runner is the only one of its kind, and it’s the only Obstacle Run in the world that benefits such a great cause.
