It’s why I only give a dollar per meshulach and save the real money for ppl or charities that I’m sure about.

What’s a certified Meshulach? Certified with issues?

TLS, you should be considerate of those who don’t have whatsapp and post the letter(especially in Lakewood, NJ where the Oilam tried to keep away from smartphones).

Short version:
A young Bachur collecting for his father and siblings. He had a letter that was given to his father about a half year ago.
The boy himself had no letter that a Rav knows him.
I gave him a donation and he kept on pressing and pressing for more and more money.
I am seriously
מסופק
If he is legit. He had a professional sales pitch, father not well, children have no food. He had two credit card machines.
I hope my money went to Tzedaka.

And if the letter had his name, would that guarantee it would go to the right place? So many with letters I researhed and found to be total scam artists. Including fooling the Rabanim. Anyone can put on a sad face and story. That doesn’t make them a tzedakah case.

Reb Yoel said that when a Yid asks for money, you give him, you don’t make these cheshbonis.

When the discussion is something that is a disgrace to Hashem’s name only (Shabbos, peritzus etc.) everybody is “tolerant” and into Ahavas Yisroel. But, suddenly when it’s about giving or not giving a dollar we’re all FBI investigators….

It depends. If you spend 45 minutes going over his letters with the magnifying glass and then give him a quarter, yes that’s rishus.

But if you are trying to make a decision about allocating a substantial donation, due diligence is basic logic.
