My 3 cents

I was in Walmart today and they were almost totally out of eggs they only had about 3 boxes of 36 (2 boxes of 18 wrapped together in plastic for $16.36) left in the fridge. It came to a mere $5.45 a doz.

Seriously!

Before all you communists come and say that there should be price controls, this is called supply and demand. There is bird flu so that supply of eggs went down which makes them more expensive. This is not a money grab. If it was, one store would just sell for cheaper and everyone would go there.

You can’t really count wic eggs as they’re always more expensive. Not saying it’s not crazy but wic pays more hence the higher price

I pay less than a $1 a dozen. My backyard leghorn hens supply us with fresh & healthy eggs. 50 lbs of feed is about 16.50 at tractor supply. Anyone can do it.

Great idea

Don’t forget that you can feed them kitchen scraps too.
Obviously make sure you know what you can and cannot feed them, a high fat diet for example can negatively impact your chickens.

$12 in St Thomas. Everything is super expensive because of high tax rates. $10 for a bottle of milk, $7 for a jar of peanut butter etc.

Common sense

What’s the big deal over here? You can spend $.75 at every snack bag that your kids bring to school which cost three dollars per kid per day minimum and you’re complaining about eggs, which is the only healthy thing that your kids will be eating

What came first chicken or egg

Why does bird flu affect egg pricing but not chicken pricing? I’m not asking for the cost of chicken to skyrocket, but I can’t understand how egg prices keep rising while chicken prices haven’t increased in the same range. IOW-is the rise in egg prices really legitimately due to bird flu?

Asking

My question is, if there’s a bird flu, why don’t we see a increase on the price of chicken as well? For some reason the price of chicken is the same but eggs are out of control.

cheapest?

Why don’t you ask where is the place where you are paying less than some other stores?

Just went shopping last Sunday. Eggs in North part of Israel are about 21 shekels for 1.5 dozen (so roughly $3.88 per dozen). I expect it could go up…

Can someone please tell me when you buy a dozen Large eggs they look like a pigeon egg the yolks are so small they should be classified as small not large.

The reason egg prices have skyrocketed as opposed to chicken prices is due to the kind of chicken. Egg laying flocks have been hit with bird flu, causing the chicken farmer to have to kill off the whole flock to help try and prevent the spread, whereas the chicken that we eat, the flocks have not been as negatively affected. As well, chickens that we eat take approximately 6-8 weeks to grow. Where as egg laying chickens take 18-22 weeks to start producing eggs, so essentially when they need to kill off a flock it takes alot longer to replace them hence the higher prices and tge shortages. In summary it’s different kinds of chicken hence the egg market getting alot more affected since the outbreak is primarily there, and the replacement process is much longer. That said bingo was selling eggs for $3.99/dozen and coatco(if and when they have in stock) as well as trader joes(specific packages)and aldis have been selling for a much better price

If the prices range within the same community from about $6 a dozen to $10 a dozen, that isn’t because of bird flu, that is someone taking advantage of the situation.

The reason for so.e stores selling things for cheaper can be due to different suppliers and or the quantity the stores purchase, helping to defray shipping costs and what not….. as well some stores may sell them as LOSS LEADERS” i.e. a way to get someone on the door, so they’re not really making money on it.

Do Lakewood’s ordinances allow for anyone to keep chickens in their yards? Are there any regulations we should be informed of? I’d like to do this the right way.

Hey, don’t worry about it. I’ve got 3 neighbors who have chickens in their back yards. And there are more in the development. I hate the roosters as they wake me up in the morning. BTW– Lakewood did away with zoning so anything goes.

You should thank that creep Biden for ordering his federal employees to kill 100,000 egg-laying chickens. He doesn’t have to worry about the extra cost to himself because he’s made more than enough money in his backroom China deals to pay for whatever he wants.

Bird flu is zoonotic, meaning that it can be passed from bird to humans and that can happen through eating the eggs.

Eggs are around $5 a dozen of Large eggs at Aldi. Limit 2 per customer. At least that’s what the price was yesterday. And the Large eggs are a nice size too.

It’s not only eggs that have skyrocketed. So this chicken flu theory is for the birds. I’ve been buying pigeon eggs. Same thing only a little smaller. Local ethnic grocery stores carry them. 1.99 a dozen
