Submitted: Beware of Scammers Claiming to be From The Toms River Police Department

Hi, I wanted to notify your readers of an attempted scam which occurred with my wife earlier this week.

My wife received a call from someone who claimed to be calling from the Toms River Police Department.

The caller was saying that my wife’s brother was arrested after being involved in an accident, and that she needs to hand over money in order to bail him out.

After my wife started questioning him about legitimacy of her claims, the caller hung up immediately.

Earlier this year, the Toms River Police Department warned about this particular scam, warning that “these scammers will do all they can to keep you on the phone and engaged.”

“They can be very convincing. Please be assured, the police department will never ask for money over the phone,” Toms River police said.
