Submitted: I am writing in to TLS looking for help. Two years ago we were on Jersey Care, but as is the case with many in Lakewood, upon recertification we found out we were making too much money. So we applied for one of their other paying programs. However, the communication between us and the insurance company proved to be impossible. They don’t allow email, so it’s pretty much regular mail or faxing. You can mail them all they ask for and it will take MONTHS for them to get the paperwork to the right department. When you fax it in, it doesn’t get processed for about 10 days.
Meanwhile, for the better part of a year, our whole family was off health insurance. That means no regular doctors’ visits, eye exams, dental, or even urgent care. Every little thing comes out of pocket. We tried using community organizations like the LRRC, but all we were being told was it takes time.
Hello? It’s 2025! Should this process take so long? We have technology. We supplied them with everything they asked for. The LRRC told us to contact the governor’s office, which we DID. But there was still a runaround, etc. When submitting paperwork, it can go to the county or the State. And you don’t always know which. We were told that it’s been three months since they heard from us, so now we have to file a new claim as you have been canceled and off insurance—besides for one child.
How is it that one child is on insurance and one isn’t? Does that even make sense??!
After FINALLY getting back on a paid plan, we were recently asked some questions again and to recertify. I dutifully collected the paperwork and made copies and mailed it out two days after receiving the letter. After a few weeks, I called to see an update, but to my dismay, they said they haven’t received a thing. Maybe it’s a mail problem and the post office is slow or at fault?
They offered me to fax them the material, which I did, and they confirmed that they received it. But in the weeks following, I got another cancellation letter because they claim my material wasn’t submitted in time—even after being told to fax it to a specific person and it should be OK.
I waited a month after I faxed and drove down to the Ocean County Board of Social Services and explained my case. Guess what? Now they are saying it is in the State’s hands. Again with this ridiculous runaround. Being handed back and forth between the State and County, we are stuck in the middle.
None of my kids, not to mention my husband and myself, have any medical care. There are some conditions that require constant monitoring and medication, but no one cares. What are we to do?
This is not a way to keep living, but why is it impossible to take care of these things in 2025 in a matter of days—and have a person talk to you who isn’t waiting two weeks to receive a fax?
The system needs an overhaul.
If you have any suggestions or ideas, please post them. I can also be contacted through TLS.
TLS welcomes your letters by submitting them to [email protected]

Wellcome!
No free ride or government programs for us forgotten group.
I haven’t seen a primery care physician in over 5 years.
You get what you (we) pay for!
Health insurance costs money. It’s not free. NJ in particular is not much better then a 3rd world country in many services. I’m not surprised at all that someone would get a run around.
Please don’t forget about this when voting on election day…….
Vote democrat and it getrs worse.
U need to contact the state senators and assembly men. such as senators singers office. And Avi schnall.also send this letter to every state senator.
Get the media involved
The insurance companies don’t like exposure
If you do figure it out please let us know bec you’re 1 of many with the same issues
Unfortunately this is how things could go in the garden state, we tried 3 times to receive snap benefits when we were eligible and long story short, run around, denied documents not received in time etc…
The garden state government needs a complete overhaul.
Call Diamant Insurance agency, they know everything.
Avi schnall’s office was incredibly helpful when I was in similar situation.
I would try Chris Smith’s office. There are very nice people working there who get things done! If nothing else works call the Better Business Bureau! It ALWAYS works!!!
If you’re trying to buy from the marketplace, you can choose a broker. They can help you.
I used Cosmo Insurance.
Get United Refua or with market place plans diamant insurance is a huge help. They are always helpful
This is what happens when you vote for Republicans. Big Beautiful Bill made things even worse. Reap what you sow.
I had great competitive insurance with great coverage. ObamaCare destroyed it. Now I pay triple the price and nothing is covered and everything is a fight.
Also still missing my pre-obamacare insurance! I pay more out of my pocket, with the gov having to be pick up even more of the bill and then I have a deductible, which I didn’t have in 2013… All for a worse network!!
The BBB hasn’t gone into affect yet. Apparently you have very little factual knowledge.Plus this guys issue stems from Biden era fiscal numbers.
Get United Refua or at least contact them to get info if it’s for you. I’ve met tons of happy customers I’ll using myself. Premiums are lower than insurance companies and deductibles are less and coverage is much better. Doesn’t include dental but they have a discount program. Hundred or probably even thousands of Lakewood families are on it
EZ benefits is the way to go. the guy is solid!!
Stop blaming everyone. Do what the rest of us do who are not on JerseyCare. Pay for insurance. It’s your choice if you want insurance or not. Don’t be a victim. You can get insurance yourself on getcoverednj in just a few minutes. But yes, JerseyCare is annoying to deal with and sometimes you just have to pay for private to fill in the gaps of when they start covering.
