PHOTO: A structure fire heavily damaged a home last night, Fire Chief Rodney Youmans confirmed to TLS. At about 11:30 PM, police and firefighters arrived to a home on Arlington Avenue to find the 2nd floor and attic of the home engulfed in flames, and hit out for a General Alarm. 6 people were home at the time of the fire, but they all made it out uninjured, Youmans said.
The Fire Department battled the blaze for about 45 minutes, with the assitance of Herbertsville Fire Department.
The Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. TLS-CCP.
Probably a ner in the bedroom for yom kipur
at least we know it was not a blech or hot plate!
It was not from a ner.
Nope. Not from a Ner.
how do you it was not a ner? ridicules.
It was NOT a ner in the bedroom…. the exhaust fan in the bathroom overheated and caught fire… B’h the fire alarms went off and they were able to get out in time!
Why don’t the Jewish FireFighters respond to alarms on shobbis? Hatzola responds to save lives…
to #7:
you answered your own question – to save lives takes precedence over shabbos – to save property does not – if there is a risk to lives then jewish firefighters would respond also

is it so poshut that a fire in a house that can affect other houses is not pikuach nefoshos? ask a competent rov, it’s not poshut at all. I am NOT a posek.
Was lcsw there
To #5: because i was there. And FYI I didn’t ridicule anyone, especially with YK being today š
B/h that no one was injured, the financial chailok hashen will replace hashem yemaila chusroincho
Cannot believe that a house fire does not also require some thought as to saving a life,
NOW WHERE DOES THIS STATE THIS IS THE JEWISH RELIGION?
I hope you didn’t get confused with Biur Chametz, a little humor is needed, Fires are devestating.
I would just like to thank LFD for there brave work.
to #7 and #8:
According to the Rema in OāCH 334:26 we assume that all fires today are Sakanos Nafashos and Vāhazariz Harei Zeh Meshubach (See also 329:1). According to the Yerushalmi Yoma (8:5) someone who asks a Shaylah in the case of a Sakana is a Shofech Damim.
Thatās why I called 911 when the Arlington Ave fire started.

Read the rema carefullly. It’s hard to imagine (but possible) that other houses would have burned as well. The rema was talking about very close houses where the fire will easily spread (could be Arlington qualifies) and there may be a chole or Zakein who can’t escape. If you would have put out the fire and not made a call, perhaps you would then be right.
If not, see the rest of the rema for the teshuva you should do. Interestingly, that’s where he chose to print it.
I am glad you are talking without knowing anything about the fire.
FYI the neighboring houses DID get singed and could of C”V caught completely on fire if the fire-department hadn’t put it out.
You should never know of such a situation but don’t be so fast to call out others wronging the day after yom kippur!
The siding on most of the homes today including arlington is very flamable. And can hop from one home to another in a very short time period. So on a sofek pekuch nefesh u should have no problem calling the fire dept. Don’t be a chosid shoyteh and just pick up the phone. Use a shenuy if u want but don’t be a chusid on yenems cheshbon
#10 hy in the worls should lcsw be there ??????
they dont put out fires ?????????????
you didnt ask why wasnt chaverim there ????????????
for those who think that the rama doesn’t apply nowadays the siding on the house next door actually melted and the Fire Department actually evacuated the houses on either side for a time so they obviously felt it was a chashash sakana. Rather than making on the spot chakiras about safek sakana the poskim will usually generalize for a town because it is hard to judge properly under stress. The caller made the right move. Vhazariz Niskar.
to 17 , the (moderated) house has all thier siding melted and without the brave work of the LFD thier house would have been burnt as well … so 16 was right ( BTW the husband was away and who know what could have happened ) …
Just so you know the house next to the one that was in fire did have a good chance of catching fire as well. The siding started to melt so if it was given a little more time it def would have spread to the next house.
This is the USA. If I live next to you and your house catches on fire and you vacate the house, BUT DON’T CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT to report the fire, and my house gets damaged, YOU WILL BE LIABLE FOR MY DAMAGES by failing to report a fire.
#24 – how is someone supposed to call the fire department when they vacate they house? Not everyone grabs a cell phone.
go use the phone at the neighbors if you don’t take the cell. Also, fires double in size every minute. As the fire grows larger, more danger to the fire fighters coming to put out your fire, do you think of them?
