I worked in Boro Park yesterday and I had driven home in it last night: I was done with my work at 8 pm but I heard distant rumble and thunder so I figured I’ll find some work to do till 9:30 and than I will head out to Lakewood after the storms had past; so I left 9:40 during light rain, as soon as I got over the Verrazano the rain got very very heavy, the visibility was down to only a few feet and driving on the Staten Island Expressway was like driving in an Ocean, everyone had their flashers on, it was blinding lightening and violent thunder of which I was scared to go over the new Goethals Bridge so I took the 440 West Shore Expressway of which the storm didn’t let up and I felt hail stones beating down on my vehicle so I had seen a wide shoulder on the highway and I pulled over; I figured I will wait it out, I get a call from my wife she’s home alone and terrified, so as soon as the hail stopped I continued on with my flashers on the entire way till about Freehold; in Howell it started up again full blast but not as bad as Staten Island.
The flood waters of such storms are known to destroy a vehicles engine but my vehicle doesn’t have much life left on it anyway with 237,000 miles , so when I drive in such storms I go very slow with my flashers on and always stay on the high point of the road which is the opposite side of its storm drains.
When I got home I thanked HaShem & I told my wife it’s been an adventure.
