Stephanie Schmid Celebrates Primary Election Victory and Kicks Off General Election Campaign, Challenging Longtime Congressman Chris Smith

Stephanie Schmid, Democratic Nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s 4th District, held a victory rally and general election kickoff event Thursday evening in Eatontown. Supporters gathered in their masks and with homemade signs in support of their new Democratic Nominee.

Stephanie was introduced by Joan Gotti, President of the Little Silver Democratic Club and candidate for Borough Council. “Today is the kickoff for the next Congressional representative for CD-4, a woman who is guided by the words of John Lewis—who will get in trouble, good trouble, necessary trouble, to restore our humanity locally and nation-wide and who will fight for our liberty.”

“Thank you to the volunteers who made countless calls, wrote postcards, hosted meet and greets, donated, and who showed up for my launch all the way back on September 7th,” Stephanie said to the crowd. “It has been a long fight to win this primary, but we are celebrating a decisive victory today and it wouldn’t be without all of you.”

“As we’re celebrating this primary victory, I want to talk about what this campaign stands for. This is a campaign for anybody that believes science and facts matter. This campaign is for anyone who believes healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. For people who think we are paying far too much in taxes down to Washington, D.C., and getting back far too little in return. It is time to repeal the State and Local Tax Deduction Cap. For people who believe in protecting our environment, for those who love our shore and beaches, our parks like the beautiful park we’re in today, and want to ensure that they’re here for our kids and great grandkids. And this is for people who actually believe in common sense gun safety reform.”

“Congressman Smith hasn’t had a town hall in public in our community in 27 years and counting. So this is a campaign about accountable and transparent leadership. It is about putting someone in power who we trust and who will amplify the voices of our community. I will be in this community, holding town halls across Monmouth, Mercer, and Ocean Counties, talking to people throughout NJ-4 about what your needs are, what your wants and your values are. And then I’m going to go to Washington and amplify all of our voices and fight for our small businesses and for our families. That is what a representative in Congress is supposed to do.”

“Since Congressman Smith has had some trouble with making it back to New Jersey on a regular basis, I invite him over the next 100 days to come back and debate me and talk about what matters in 2020. What matters in 2020 is having a government that we have faith and trust in. It is a government that protects our public health and safety. It is a government that leads by example and restores us as a beacon of hope on a shining hill. That is what I’m about, and it is why I am running for office. It is well past time that we elect a new generation of leaders who are committed to putting their country before party, people before partisanship, families and small businesses before extreme agendas. Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans in this district are sick and tired of a career politician who is voting in no one’s best interest but his own.”

“Sunday is my 40th birthday and we are also marking 100 days until November 3rd. We are moving into the general election now as the Democratic Nominee in the Fourth and we are going to fight for every single vote. We know that we can win, the numbers are there, we just need to do the work. Together, we are going to do something very special this year, and flip the Fourth District and bring much needed change to our country and to Central Jersey. Please join me at Thank you so much for your support.”
