The state of New Jersey officially released the turnout numbers for the 2022 midterm elections, showing that total turnout was at 41% statewide.
According to the official election results, 2,646,689 people in New Jersey voted in the general election, just over 41% of the 6,444,613 registered voters in the state.
In Lakewood, as previously reported, total turnout was at 42.6%, just above the state total.
According to the Ocean County Clerkâs office, 24,697 registered voters in Lakewood cast a ballot, either in person early or on election day, or by mailing in a ballot. There are 58,576 registered voters in the township.
This year’s turnout in New Jersey, which featured no statewide race, was the lowest it has been since 36% turned out to vote in 2014.
For the 2018 midterm, which had Democratic Senator Bob Menendez seeking re-election, turnout was at 55%.
However, this year’s turnout was very similar to the 2010 midterm, the last such election without a U.S. Senate candidate on the ballot.
Turnout that year was 43%.

Folks we can vote by mail in NJ. Many mothers such as my own wife just can’t make it to the polls. But if it means signing a ballot on the kitchen table then yes why not. The same is with 18+ bochrim or and girls. We need a stronger push for mail in ballots. Thats what will really increase our votes. Its so easy and convenient.
