  1. Actually, the letter leaves gaping holes in the intended reassurance with the phrases “Town Appliance has not been made aware of (plans to change the software” and “as long as the product software remains unchanged”.

Using the passive expression “has not been made aware of”, instead of an active expression, like “Town Appliance inquired and, at this time, GE has no plans to change the software, is a big red flag. To not be made aware of means you have not actually inquired, but are passive, waiting for an GE to take the initiative to inform you. Hardly a thorough attempt to seek the truth.

“As long as there are no changes”? And who is going to diligently monitor GE activities that are invisible to the general public?

Respectfully, merchants selling a product are not good sources for information when they have a significant financial interest in the results.

  2. I don’t get the big fuss. GE refrigerators were never certified by the Star-K and yet people sold/purchased them without a problem because they followed some sort of uncertified Shabbos protocol.
Ovens are no different. They’ll still have the same Shabbos mode protocol just no longer certified by Star-K. If you want certified, buy the Shabbos thing from Zman.
    Much ado about nothing……..

  3. Thank you town appliance but you are missing an important point There are some serious halachic questions how to use the sabbath, are you allowed to open and close the oven numerous times? See the website Star-K on their statement. This is not just a “business matter”

The above linked article by Star-K’s is an absolutely “MUST READ” for anyone using a Star-K Certified Sabbath Mode on any brand, Not just GE.
Read it and know the proper Halachic Guidelines issued by the Star-K..

Don’t just use your Sabbath Mode oven blindly as if it were a refrigerator.. putting stuff in and out whenever you want.

      Specifically :

Myth #5: When an oven is in STAR-K Sabbath mode during Shabbos, the oven door may be opened in order to remove some food, then closed, and subsequently opened once again in order to remove more food.

Myth #8: Some ovens have a feature which automatically turns the flame off immediately when the oven door is opened, and turns the flame back on when the oven door is closed. Putting the oven in STAR-K Sabbath mode completely disables this feature.
