Statement from the Lakewood Police Department

Statement: The Lakewood Police Department is aware of the public concern and recent media reports regarding a July 3rd incident that has shaken trust within our community.

We recognize the seriousness of these concerns and the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability. While we are limited in what we can share at this time due to an active internal affairs investigation, we want to reassure the public that this matter is being taken with the utmost seriousness and is being investigated thoroughly and objectively in accordance with established protocols.

We ask for the community’s patience as we allow the process to properly unfold.

We remain committed to transparency, to accountability, and most importantly to the trust of those we serve.

As a friend of the individual involved, I am deeply hurt and disturbed, even angry yes angry! This statement does nothing to calm us.

The lack of common sense and almost border brutality is maddening. Total unchecked power and abuse of authority. We deserve and need answers fast.

I applaud the scoop for their sensitivity in reporting this matter.

We all have a gaping hole in our hearts for someone so pure having to go through unnecessary trauma.

Only care when it’s about community members versus ICE picking up and deporting people without due process.

Also, on the topic of this article, I wish the Scoop did more to protect survivors versus perpetrators. Shameful.

and I hope they will keep the community updated as things unfold in order to restore the faith in our elected officials and police department, not just to shove it under the rug and hope everyone forgets, as most politicians would like to happen

Can someone please explain what this is about?

what Trump says about the press controlling the information and narrative is very true. Our hearts, Thoughts, and Tefilos should be with the one that was arrested. Nothing more, and nothing less

What bothers me most is the news (local anti-semitic paper, you know the one) quoting the prosecutor as stating for a fact that this Yid made immoral and disgusting gestures, as well as declaring with certainty what his intentions were. The prosecutor hardly used the word “allegedly” (I beleive only used it once), nor did he even come close to that tone. He straight out said that this act was 100 percent immoral, as well as being somehow able to read this person’s intent.
When a terrorist throws a Molotov cocktail at innocent Jews, the media as well as prosecutor’s office and law enforcement all say “allegedly”, even though there is clear footage of his committing the act. Innocent until proven guilty. Due process.
The police want to know why we are scared, offended and angry? The world wants to know why we are standing behind this Yid? It is because he was presumed guilty, both through actions as well as official wording, BEFORE he was given due process. They have already judged him as guilty. I daresay the average citizen would not be treated this way. Even a felon with prior convictions would not be treated this way. Is it any wonder that we are hearing rumors and wondering if it’s actually true that he is being mistreated because the boy is (apparently/allegedly) an illegal (it’s NJ..)? Rumors that there are strong indicators of Anti Semitism? Again, this is not to say that any of those rumors are true, but one cannot help feeling that the trust we have always had in local government and enforcement may have been misplaced.
personally, I think that there are only a few bad apples here, and possibly some mistakes made. At the very least, there seems to be a severe lack of communication. But who knows?!

An immigrant with broken English having no due process?! No way! I thought that was only for the people in lakewood that have more indigenous north American DNA than a majority of citizens. How unfair! Right?

You are wrong about the felon being treated better, I have been a second-class citizen since 1972. The hurtful thing is my conviction came shortly after I left the military, back then there were no free passes for PTSD.

working closely with the Lakewood Police Department everyday, assisting many individuals and families throught our community. Over the years,I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication and compassion of countless officers who go above and beyond to help people in real and meaningful ways untold stories of officers showing care, and genuine concern for our residents.
Of course, like in any organization, difficult or unfortunate incidents can happen. That’s why they have internal affairs processes-to ensure that every situation is investigated fairly and thoroghly. Its important that we allow those processes to work.Let’s continue to support one another as a community, and stand for both justice and truth, wherever it leads

Carlos I agree with u wholeheartedly with ur comments I disagree on one point that the investigation of the police officers involved must come from a outside lpd in order to insure transparent investigation not there own internal affairs department

Carlos I agree with u wholeheartedly with ur comments I disagree on one point that the investigation of the police officers involved must come from a outside lpd in order to insure transparent investigation not there own internal affairs department I also hate to say this it’s time for police auditors come back to lakewood to keep police from infringing on citizens of this town’s civil liberties

How do people make comments on infringing on the rights by LPD when the story of what happened has not even been printed here ??? You need facts to make an intelligent call as to what took place !
