Statement from Mayor Ray Coles on the Passing of Max, the ‘First Dog’ of Lakewood

Mayor Ray Coles gave TLS the following statement in response to the tragic passing of Max, known as the First Dog of Lakewood.

“It pains me to say that Max passed away last night. As painful as it is for us, I take great comfort in all the comments and reactions to his videos over the past several years. He enjoyed barking at the countless children who stopped in front of our house and barked back at him. The pool won’t be the same without him, but I have memories of him to last a lifetime.”

Note: Though the incident happened last night, Mayor Coles requested the incident not be publicized at that time. It was now cleared for publication.

May Max Rest In Peace.

Rabbi Miller zt’l said that we learn the trait of Loyalty from dogs. He told a true story of a dog that would routinely run the bus stop where his owner would arrive daily from work. After the owner passed away, the dog continued his daily practice going to the bus stop for many months afterward.
