On Sunday, TLS announced a year-long construction project on Cedarbridge Avenue, which was set to take place daily between 10 AM and 6 PM.
In response to the story, TLS was flooded with ‘Ask The Mayor’ emails regarding the project, which residents felt would cause extreme backups on the already-congested roads.
As a result, the Mayor had the schedule changed to a nighttime project.
The Mayor sent TLS the following statement:
Good afternoon,
This letter is in response to all the emails, texts and phone calls I received today about the impending construction work on Cedarbridge Ave. I’m a little embarrassed to admit I was not aware how soon this project was scheduled to start.
As soon as I read the first emails today, I contacted the township manager, engineer and traffic and safety. We all agreed that daytime closing should be avoided at all costs.
I’d like to thank our professionals for jumping on this immediately. They contacted Earle Asphalt, the contractor the county hired to do this job. They agreed, along with the county, to do the work at night.
Thanks to everyone who reached out today.
Ray
Thank you Mayor, for always having our best interests in mind and working with us. Lakewood is very lucky to have a mayor like you.
Simply stuff. Why would u schedule such a project during day time hours. In fact all such projects should be done only at night. Perhaps there can be an official ordinance that only allowes road work at night.
With all due respect, it took one weekend to put up a light on the corner of James Street and Williams. How can this company justify a year long project for a traffic light, some repaving and a few no left turn signs???
What? James and Williams light took forever. They worked one day took a few weeks off, came back for an hour etc… This was a long job from start to finish.
Mayor Coles has done a great job all these years. However, I’m a little nervous about the fact that such a major project was announced to begin very soon and no one, including the mayor, township manager, etc., did not realize the serious impact this would have on the people of Lakewood, until we all protested.
what is the purpose of the construction?
They are adding a light by the corner of Vine and Cedarbrigde. Making Vine a real street going through and Melville a one way street
Curious if anyone knows if they’re also putting a light on the vine and pine corner? That area is already a disaster
we appreciate it! I don’t understand why The Township couldn’t work it out ahead of time, and only did so after the People spoke up!
