As I reflect on the tremendous contributions of Mayor Mike Reina to our township, I feel both honored and humbled to put into words what so many in Jackson already know: our Township has been immeasurably shaped by his nearly 18 years of dedicated service as our mayor.
Mayor Reina has been more than Jackson’s longest-serving chief executive. He has been a steady hand through crises like Superstorm Sandy, a determined advocate for our residents in the halls of Trenton and Washington, and a voice for fiscal responsibility and strong Republican leadership here at home. When Jackson needed strength, he provided it. When we needed vision, he offered it. And when Jackson faced difficult challenges, he stood firm and never wavered in his commitment to the people he served.
On a personal level, I owe Mayor Reina an everlasting debt of gratitude. It was Mayor Reina who appointed me first to the Planning Board and then to the Township Council, opening the door for me to serve the people of Jackson in elected office. The learning curve of local governance is steep, but Mike was always there to guide me as a mentor and friend. His wisdom, patience, and encouragement have been invaluable to me, and I will forever carry the lessons he has imparted.
Mayor Reina’s legacy cannot be captured in a single list of achievements. It lives in the stability he brought during times of political turbulence, in the countless families who have benefited from his efforts, and in the enduring spirit of public service he inspired among those who worked alongside him. His leadership has left an indelible mark on Jackson Township, one that will literally endure for generations.
I extend my deepest thanks to Mayor Reina for his extraordinary service, his guidance, and his friendship. Jackson is a better, stronger, and more united township because of him.
May he and his loving family enjoy much health, happiness, and continued fulfillment in their next chapter of life.
With gratitude and respect,
Councilman Mordy Burnstein

Well-deserved and beautifully written tribute. Most public servants never get to read words like these!
