Board President Barry Iann has just released the following statement to TLS, following the report of the restored busing:
I wish to extend his sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr. Kakavas for working so diligently today to find coverage for the fourteen bus routes that were unserviced as a result of the earlier cancellation notices.
Thanks also to Mr. Azzara for allowing District owned buses to be utilized to cover several of the non-public routes which lost transportation.
As a result of today’s hard work, the children who were affected by the cancellations will now have transportation, commencing on Thursday.
The Board President also wishes to extend his appreciation to Jays Bus Co., Klarr Transport, Central Bus Co. And Semon Tov Bus Co. who all worked diligently to help cover these routes.
Through hard work and a spirit of mutual partnership between the Board, Mr. Kakavas, the Monitor and bus contractors, the children of Lakewood who lost transportation will now be able to get to and from school is a safe and secure manner, which is the highest priority. Tonight’s emergency meeting is no longer required and has been cancelled.

Hi TLS, can someone arrange a meeting at the Lakewood HS for all parents and children who still don’t have bussing since the beginning of the year.
What about the kids that don’t have busing from day 1?
Can we now go a week without a story about busing which was defeated, overridden by who ever and now still causing more money to be spent. And so glad everyone was thanked or was everyone
It is unfair there are few buses route that aren’t covered from beginning of the year. I don’t understand the governments route is unfair under no child left out acts.
What happened today is a disgrace by Mr. Azzara and his team. When a contract is cancelled, the route goes back to the pool of non contracted routes. Why did the routes cancelled from Durham get special priority from the rest of the pool of non contracted routes? This means that all mandated students with non-contracted routes were NOT treated equally. Where is the logic?
Yes I agree. It’s only fair that those who never had mandated busing should get it now and the other parents do their share of carpooling. Why did you cancel the meeting as if the status quo is ok? Are you blind to what’s going on?
