New Jersey State troopers plan to start targeting tailgaters on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. The two-week crackdown begins tomorrow and runs through Oct. 31. State Police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes said troopers will use laser technology that calculates the time and distance between vehicles. Sgt. Stephen Jones saids following another vehicle too closely causes about one-third of the crashes on the toll roads. Jones said in ideal conditions, motorists should maintain a distance of one car length behind another vehicle for every 10 mph they are traveling.
Violators face fines and points assessed to their driving record. AP
They should crack down on the people who travel in the left lane and dont move over for cars wanting to pass, they are the ones causing the tailgating and road rage.
If I stay 5 car lengths behind the car in front of me, as is the required distance @ 50 mph, 2 or 3 cars will pass me and pull into that space, forcing me to slow down until there are 5 car lengths in front of me. Then the same thing happens again. And, with my luck, I will get the tail gating ticket. I think I will have to mount a video camera on my dashboard to record the fact it is not me at fault.
No, 1WhoKnows dont be so philosophical just drive normal and dont block the left lane and youll be ok

Mark, If you witness someone breaking the law, how do you justify it by breaking the law yourself?
