State Police To Target Drunken, Tired Drivers

mvaNew Jersey State Police plan to target drunken, distracted and fatigued drivers over the Labor Day holiday weekend. There have been 403 motor vehicle fatalities in the state this year, or 14 more than the same period last year. State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes says the increase shows motorists are not taking the necessary steps to travel safely. Police are also reminding motorists to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. There have been 31 more pedestrian deaths in 2009 compared to the same period last year. Six persons died on New Jersey roadways during Labor Day weekend last year. AP
