State Police Investigate Parkway Crash That Killed Teen

The New Jersey State Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed Rachel Upright, 15, of New Milford, P.A., and seriously injured another on the Garden State Parkway in Brick Township, Ocean County.On Saturday, June 23, at approximately 5:22 p.m., a Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on the Garden State Parkway in the right lane. In the area of milepost 93.3, the Ford entered the right shoulder and struck the rear of a parked Hyundai Santa Fe, which then struck the rear of a parked Honda CR-V. The drivers of the Hyundai and the Honda were not in their vehicles at the time of the crash and were not injured.
Rachel Upright was seated in the back seat of the Hyundai at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and the driver of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

The two right lanes of the Garden State Parkway northbound were closed for approximately 3 hours. Cause of the crash remains under investigation.
