The state is working with the Lakewood school district to help avoid service interruption for thousands of children, officials said today.
The schools in question were utilizing trailers and mobile vans which weren’t in compliance with state regulations, resulting in violations following a state inspection.
Three schools in particular needed to immediately replace mobile vans – some which were reportedly sitting there for about 20 years. The vans, though used as a trailer, require a DMV approval, officials said.
Working with county and local district officials, the state managed to locate several replacements in Keansburg, which will be brought immediately to Lakewood to avoid service interruption. The district is also working on purchasing new units.
“Thankfully things are moving along swiftly and it appears children’s services will not need to be interrupted,” Board of Education member Isaac Zlatkin said.
Services were already interrupted as of yesterday.
