State Department Holding Multiple Passport Fairs Throughout New Jersey to Help With Backlogs

With demand for U.S. Passports at an all time high, causing weeks of delays for documents to be processed, the U.S. State Department is hosting a series of Passport Acceptance Fairs across the state, where first-time passport applicants can apply for a new passport.

“Passport acceptance facilities such as post offices, libraries, and local government offices are hosting special passport acceptance fairs across the United States to help you and your family apply for your passport,” the State Department announced.

Earlier this summer, the State Department said processing of a passport application was taking more than four months (18 weeks). Plus, ‘expedited’ service may only shorten the wait to three months, although those wait times have eased somewhat.

The average wait for a routine passport is now 8-11 weeks and 5-7 weeks for an expedited passport.
