Sprint & Nextel Towers Soon To Go Up On Oak Street

Sprint and Nextel cell towers are expected to soon go up on Oak Street, TLS has learned. The towers proposed by the Company earlier this year – which will consisit of multiple wireless communications antennas – will be built at the site of the LTMUA. (Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority).

In March, the company released the following notice, (as reported on TLS):

Sprint Together with Nextel (Sprint) is proposing to construct a new wireless telecommunications facility at Oak Street, Lakewood Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.

Sprint is proposing to mount 12 wireless communications antennas at a centerline elevation of 131 feet above ground level on a recently constructed 151-foot tall water tank and place supporting equipment at the base of the water tank within a 600 square foot lease area.

Proposed supporting equipment cabinets will be located on concrete piers. Proposed coax support trays will extend coaxial cables from the proposed supporting equipment to the proposed antennas on the water tank.

The lease area will be enclosed by a proposed 9-foot high chain link fence. Access to the wireless facility will be from an access drive from Oak Street.

The proposal was recently approved by the LIC, and will go to the planning board for final approval. TLS.

  1. Much better to build schools in Industrial Park than in a quiet residential neighborhood.

What about all the people that work in Industrial Park. Anyone think of that?

  2. Isn’t there a cell antenna on the top of a school on 6th street in Lakewood? I remember a while back the phone company wanted to put one there. Did they? Someone please look up as you walk past the school and answer this question. Thank you.

  3. FYI – These schools on Oak St. are NOT built in Industrial Park. This tower I believe, is being built on Oak Street IN Industrial Park (on the other side of New Hampshire – like by Lake Terrace).

  4. You don’t want a new tower yet you keep the phone all day? There is more damage from your phone that transmitting and receiving then from a tower that you pass by about 500 yards away from you.

Reminds me of when the media makes a big hype about shark attacks. More people die a year of vending machines falling on them than shark attacks.

  5. “Sprint is proposing to mount 12 wireless communications antennas at a centerline elevation of 131 feet above ground level on a recently constructed 151-foot tall water tank”

Sound’s like you’ll get 4G in the shower.

  6. “There is more damage from your phone that transmitting and receiving then from a tower that you pass by about 500 yards away from you.”

You talk on the phone for 1-3 hours a day. The antenna station transmits non-stop 24/7

  7. To #27 and #28, if you have bad reception with Sprint by your home you can call them and they should send you something called an “airave” (make sure to specifically ask for it). It works as a “antenna” connected through your home router. So you would need to have a router to use it.

    It works great for me.

    I Just want some 4G 🙂

  8. to #30: officialy there is a monthly fee. The way I got it (and others I know) is by calling up and saying I have absolutely no service in my home (which was true, as I live an a basement). The fee for the unit was waved as well as the monthly fee (I think $4.99). This would be even easier if you are not “in contract”.

I personally have received 2 “airaves” from Sprint. One on my account and one on my wifes. I keep one at home and one in my office.

With Sprint every Rep may tell you something different, so if you don’t get what you want from the first rep… hang up and call back.

  9. finally will see some good reception on sprint!
as far as radiation goes, they now say cordless phones give off as much as cell phones- anyone giving those up?

  10. All parent body of bais tova, schi, cheder, orchosChaim should protest before it becomes finalized by board…. Too close to schools… Let them find a place further away… And everybody stop complaining about lousy cell service…

  11. To #34: Where exactly do you expect Sprint to put the towers? Industrial Park is where cell towers belong… not schools.

I, personally have complained about my Sprint service several times and will continue to do so until I actually have decent service.

  12. I’m not doubting you, but who Did you confirm 4g with? I don’t want put my hopes up 🙂

Alot of the sprint reps don’t know what they are talking about.
