Sprint and Nextel cell towers are expected to soon go up on Oak Street, TLS has learned. The towers proposed by the Company earlier this year – which will consisit of multiple wireless communications antennas – will be built at the site of the LTMUA. (Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority).
In March, the company released the following notice, (as reported on TLS):
Sprint Together with Nextel (Sprint) is proposing to construct a new wireless telecommunications facility at Oak Street, Lakewood Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.
Sprint is proposing to mount 12 wireless communications antennas at a centerline elevation of 131 feet above ground level on a recently constructed 151-foot tall water tank and place supporting equipment at the base of the water tank within a 600 square foot lease area.
Proposed supporting equipment cabinets will be located on concrete piers. Proposed coax support trays will extend coaxial cables from the proposed supporting equipment to the proposed antennas on the water tank.
The lease area will be enclosed by a proposed 9-foot high chain link fence. Access to the wireless facility will be from an access drive from Oak Street.
The proposal was recently approved by the LIC, and will go to the planning board for final approval. TLS.
My kids go to school on Oak Street!! This is crazy!!
To#1 my kids don’t go to school on oak St craziness!!!!
oak st. in the industrial park, next to the water tower(oak & airport)
Does anyone know if this means Sprint users in Lakewood will be getting 4G service?
U know I love the way that everyone goes crazy when their cell phone signal is poor! How should it get fixed if they do not put up a tower?
To # 1 your (moderated) to send your kid to a school in a INDUSTRIAL PARK.
The tower is in the Industrial Park, why did they allow a school to be built in the Industrial Park …. Way to go Planning Board!!!!
This is the proper place for a cell tower. Schools in industrial parks are not proper.
Yay! Maybe this will mean a better cell phone signal! (Finally!)
cant wait to get proper sprint coverage in this town!
great, reception in lakewood has been pretty bad. can the planing board request they add 4G to Lkwd?
I think number 4 has a very good question I am calling sprint to find out if it will be for 4g.
Much better to build schools in Industrial Park than in a quiet residential neighborhood.
What about all the people that work in Industrial Park. Anyone think of that?
Where on oak street? Which oak street?
Isn’t there a cell antenna on the top of a school on 6th street in Lakewood? I remember a while back the phone company wanted to put one there. Did they? Someone please look up as you walk past the school and answer this question. Thank you.
How far will the signal reach? This is great news for us Sprint users!!
Is there a way to oppose this. I live around the corner.
FYI – These schools on Oak St. are NOT built in Industrial Park. This tower I believe, is being built on Oak Street IN Industrial Park (on the other side of New Hampshire – like by Lake Terrace).
You don’t want a new tower yet you keep the phone all day? There is more damage from your phone that transmitting and receiving then from a tower that you pass by about 500 yards away from you.
Reminds me of when the media makes a big hype about shark attacks. More people die a year of vending machines falling on them than shark attacks.
“Sprint is proposing to mount 12 wireless communications antennas at a centerline elevation of 131 feet above ground level on a recently constructed 151-foot tall water tank”
Sound’s like you’ll get 4G in the shower.
To #4 I hope so: Great! please post back if they are able to answer you or if you find out about the 4G.
Thanks
why would anybody be bothered by this
does this mean that sprint customers in lakewood will be able to actually use their phones to communicate with other peoiple?
anyone who speak to complains about Sprint’s horrible service in Lakewood.
But the minute Sprint tries to rectify the issue everyone cries Foul!
Cell towers emit microwaves that the government uses to control your mind.
“There is more damage from your phone that transmitting and receiving then from a tower that you pass by about 500 yards away from you.”
You talk on the phone for 1-3 hours a day. The antenna station transmits non-stop 24/7
forget about the 4 g i want plain old cell phone service that works all over town not only in certain areas !
Cant wait to get proper sprint coverage in this town!.
To #27 and #28, if you have bad reception with Sprint by your home you can call them and they should send you something called an “airave” (make sure to specifically ask for it). It works as a “antenna” connected through your home router. So you would need to have a router to use it.
It works great for me.
I Just want some 4G 🙂
#29
Is there a monthly fee for this gadget?
Everybody, please chill.
Its Oak St and Airport Road.
to #30: officialy there is a monthly fee. The way I got it (and others I know) is by calling up and saying I have absolutely no service in my home (which was true, as I live an a basement). The fee for the unit was waved as well as the monthly fee (I think $4.99). This would be even easier if you are not “in contract”.
I personally have received 2 “airaves” from Sprint. One on my account and one on my wifes. I keep one at home and one in my office.
With Sprint every Rep may tell you something different, so if you don’t get what you want from the first rep… hang up and call back.

your phone tx radiation (radio) signals as long as it is on
finally will see some good reception on sprint!
as far as radiation goes, they now say cordless phones give off as much as cell phones- anyone giving those up?
i heard they are going under soon……..putting up a tower next to a water tower makes sense, Brick will get great service, not Lakewood….oi vey
All parent body of bais tova, schi, cheder, orchosChaim should protest before it becomes finalized by board…. Too close to schools… Let them find a place further away… And everybody stop complaining about lousy cell service…
To #34: Where exactly do you expect Sprint to put the towers? Industrial Park is where cell towers belong… not schools.
I, personally have complained about my Sprint service several times and will continue to do so until I actually have decent service.
To all people that have bad service switch to att or verizon they have much better service than sprint
ppl need to complain no mater what so whichever way u go ever1 will complain so just put it up so sprint will have better service
yes just confirmed it will be 3 & 4G
I’m not doubting you, but who Did you confirm 4g with? I don’t want put my hopes up 🙂
Alot of the sprint reps don’t know what they are talking about.
