Why do you block the license plates?
Maybe if we publicly call out such drivers this town wouldn’t have 100 accidents a day.

because of this little thing called Hilchos Lashon Harah, and the very severe Issur of Malbin Pnei Chaveiro B’rabbim, upon which the gemara says it is as if you killed him, and that it is better to throw oneself into a firey furnace than embarass someone in public.

Using “Torah” to cover for despicable, dangerous & HIGHLY UnMenschlich behavior, that 1. Causes some of our youth to say, “If this is Torah, No thank you.” &
2. Certainly made a Chillul Hashem if seen by those from outside our community.
Growing up it was pounded into our heads CONSTANTLY in school (& everywhere else) that when you go out as an obvious Jew (& driving a “Jew Canoe” in Lakewood qualifies) you are representing not just yourself but every religious Jew in the world.
If someone sees how you act & talk what impression will you leave with them about what Frum Yidden are all about?
I’m not sure I’d jump into a furnace before showing an unblurred license plate of a blatant scofflaw but I will jump into a furnace before causing a Chillul Hashem like this Yid most probably did.

THIS is exactly what the problem is!!!
A large passenger van in Lakewood it’s safe to assume they’re Jewish or at least most people will make that assumption which causes problems as well.
Yes I saw a van with bumper stickers like, “Put the brakes on Lashon Hara” & “Talmid of the month at “Cheder Al Regel Achas” not to mention a “Tefillas HaDerech” hanging from the mirror but who’s to say the van owner wasn’t trying to sell it & this was a Non-Jew taking it for a test drive?
There’s a big difference between “Giving the benefit of the doubt” & “Sticking your head in the sand” to cover for contemptible & unmenschlich behavior.
It’s honestly so shocking some of the justifications used for these behaviors.

What?

We literally don’t know whether this guy was Jewish that means we do not have an opinion or a case here, period.

It’s not a question only of what you would choose to do or like to do the question is it prohibited to shame and destroy people’s lives by showing their license plate because of their doing a dangerous thing or not? If it’s allowed according to the Torah then it’s allowed if but if it’s not, then it’s not.

I highly doubt that’s accurate in Halacha. The driver is putting everyone in major sakanah. He’s no different then a known child predator.

It’s possible he was about to make a left into the parking lot, or maybe had a true emergency or, or…

A young lady once saw a fellow in Walmart placing things into bags from his cart at a self checkout, but he wasn’t scanning them. When he was done, he just walked out of the store with everything. She’s narrating how this is another Walmart thief in action. The video got millions of views. Several days later, a friend of this fellow asked him if he knows what’s going on, and he said he had no idea. Turns out he is a personal shopper (messenger) for people, and he said that he scans each item with his phone as he places it into the cart, he’s using a Walmart app, and pays with it too. He said that works better for him. He was just placing everything in bags to bring it to the people. But some of his customers dropped him, as they said they cannot continue to employ him as he got such a bad name.

When the local non-Jewish population spews hatred towards the local yidden, and alleges horrible behavior on the part of our community, unfortunately, sometimes their allegations are not wrong and not based on antisemitism. We as a community just can’t seem to stop giving them what they want to accuse us of.

How do you know that this driver was Jew?

There are many non-Jews who live in and near Lakewood.

As a community we are a community and that means that for people that are not antisemitic will be able bare and handle and be “understanding” that people are not perfect and that people make mistakes.

Does this justify the mistakes? no!
But what it does is, it illustrates that we need to be alert not to go around only ever making sure we don’t cause antisemitism and not see the understanding and care and love of even people that make mistakes.

Again, I AM NOT SAYING WE SHOULD BE CARELSS, but we can also in addition to being careful be “UNDERSTANDING.”

We cannot justify hatred by saying “that Jew caused me to be not understanding!”

In short, we are a burgeoning community that is civil and basically crime free and has so many great qualities, but like with any growing community there will be bumps and mistakes and falls. Adding Love to these Falls = Sheva Yipol Tzadddik VKom!!!

Let’s try to LOVE Lakewood and its Jewish and non-Jewish Drivers!!!

he”s probably making a left turn into the parking lot up ahead. i’m not saying thats legal, but I dont think its the end of the world!

if you’ll notice where the picture was taken, the driver is just trying to get into the left turning lane a little before it starts.
not such a terrible thing to do if there are no cars coming from the other direction.

Yes, this is what it was. You can see it clearly here: This is the exact spot – he’s doing exactly what the white van at the bottom of the screen is doing – he’s two car lengths before the left turning lane (the two right lanes go only straight and right): google maps link – https://maps.app.goo.gl/t5Jtfo5VYcnDQTrm9

my son got hit that way when a vehicle went over the yellow line in oncoming traffic. there are cameras on buildings there and the vehicle that hit him wanted to claim he was in the turning lane LOL. its a long way to the turning lane and cars are exiting from stores.

its when people are in a rush, breaking the law may i added with a lousy infastructure and planning that causes accidents.

They’re doing a lot of work on Rt 9 there (where this road is headed) – expanding the turning lane. I imagine the’ll extend turning time too.

On a side note as a school bus monitor I am shocked how many yiddin just blow pass my bus when has the lights on and the stop signs are out.

Don’t people understand how dangerous it is.

It might be because your bus driver keeps his yellow lights on for miles

Shmuel
Reply to  Anonymous

No we don’t do that. We take safety of the kids very seriously.

It seems many yidden don’t. I assume maybe you don’t stop.

Even if the yellow is on the bottom line is the stop sign is not out once the stop sign is out people should stop.

Luckily just last week I was letting out a special and child and I usually walk out first because I know what’s going on in Lakewood and this guy just flew by it but would have been that the kid went out first it could have been a disaster.

Interestingly in the areas where there are no or very few yidden people actually stop

In Brooklyn, they stop the bus on a slant so cars can’t physcially get by, so they’ won’t even try. And the schoool busses have doors on both sides, so chdilren don’t have to cross.

Why on earth does this comment get a thumbs down?! Maybe you mean to say it’s not an excuse if the bus isn’t like that. Granted, but maybe take into consideration that NYers reading this might be insulted. Another limud zechus lesson.
(Turns out that the van in this post is two cars before the left-turning lane. So, what he’s doing might not be perfect, but on an empty oncoming road, not too bad.)

Thanks for bringing up this annoying and dangerous habit the bus drivers deliberately do. They want to get around the traffic so basically everyone needs to stop while they fly by and make their turns. Extremely dangerous cause people don’t trust their flashing lights….

Weird: That 15 passenger Van is the Ford Econoline series which is at least 14 years old; it looks brand new and dent free and especially with such a driver.

Dan l’kaf zechus! The driver must of just moved here from England and forgot that we drive on the right side of the road, not the left. No doubt the driver tried very hard to get into a reputable driving school class but was rejected many times. The askanim need to do something about it

A big danger to our Ruchnius is “Hating with License” towards things that are to be LOVED.

All under the guise of “BEING LEGAL” and “ITS A CHILLUL HASHEM!”

It’s a very big “Nisoyon” but it’s something that we all need to stay alert to work on, not to fall into the trap of “hating with License.”

Of course we need to behave Legally and of course we need to make sure not to make a chillul Hashem and of course we need to be normal… but then to go around with Normal painted glasses and then to go around with legal painted glasses or then to go around with MENTCHLICHKIET painted glasses think that I am better than everyone else is so so a low way to behave.

If a person wishes to find license for any attitude towards people they will find it.

Perhaps this is the definition of the negative word called Licentiousness!?

Stop with the worrying about loshen hora, malbin pnai chaveiroi or protecting the ganavim and frauds , they should all be exposed.

Stop endangering peoples lives, ripping people off or stealing from others and you won’t have these worrying issues.

Suddenly we’re becoming frum, but don’t worry about destroying people’s lives

Shfichas domim doesn’t count

Wrong!

We don’t even know this was Jewish Driver, so this is all a nothing burger!

We are not of the mind that just because we are angry so therefore, we seek to destroy a person’s livelihood.

Secondly, I don’t thing we even have right to judge this driver based on one picture! we don’t know why he did this maybe there was an emergency!?

But even if it was plain and simple a bad illegal move we don’t know who it was; was it a Non-jew or a jew? Thus the Lakewood scoops sheilah would need to be asked accordingly.

Nobodies’ life was destroyed here; rather we have a concern that this could lead to danger; so then the Lakewood scoop needs to ask a real Sheilah as to whether they can consider this like a Rodef or not.

If we go down the hot head route that will not lead to less destroying people’s lives!!!

OK, the simple answer to this question is as Follows:
The picture is taken on S Clifton Ave heading North – it’s right after Cedar bridge Ave becomes Clifton Ave, right before the intersection of Ocean Ave/Main St/Rt 88. There is indeed a left-turning lane up ahead, as some surmised.
To answer people’s question about whether this was right, let us see: First, there are no oncoming cars, so that takes care of the danger aspect, for all practical purposes. Now, with regards to the legalities, if you look close at the screenshot of Google Maps that I attached, you’ll see that before the road splits from four lanes to five for the turning lane, there is a ‘buffer zone’, the same width as the truing lane – that I’m not exactly sure what it’s there for, but people use it as if it were already part of the turning lane. Perhaps when the planners are not sure how many cars would typically be turning, they provide the extra space in case there are more.
What our van is doing is jumping the gun and getting to that buffer zone even before there is any split in the road. The reason for that is clearly because the two regular lanes will be going straight and right; only the left-turning lane will turn left, and he doesn’t want to wait extra lights for it, since you can see the road if full.
If you look at the map screenshot again, you’ll see the white van at the bottom of the photo is doing precisely this – at precisely the same spot (and you can see it’s two car lengths before the buffer zone).
So, the lesson from this mystery is indeed that one must be dan lekaf zechus (judge favorably), and maybe also that they can please extend the turning lane there! TY
