Speaker Prieto Statement on Amtrak Crash

paAssembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement on Wednesday following the Amtrak crash Tuesday evening that left at least five people dead.

“On behalf of the New Jersey General Assembly, I offer my thoughts and prayers to the victims of last night’s tragic crash and their families and friends. I offer my thanks to the emergency responders.

“Rail transportation is a staple of life in New Jersey, and we know this train was headed through our state. For rail riders and their families, this is their worst fear.

“As we wait to learn more about what caused this crash, I hope for quick answers and good news for any New Jersey families facing uncertainty this morning. We will support them in any way we can.”

  1. A statement was just given to YWN by the parents of 21-year-old Justin (Avraham Yitzchak) Zemser Z”L from Far Rockaway, one of the seven victims in the Amtrak train crash in Philadelphia. Justin was studying at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and on his way back home. He was an only child, she said. The school in Annapolis, Maryland, notified the brigade of midshipman, staff and faculty on Wednesday morning:
