Rainfall across the state is expected to turn to snow this evening with accumulations up to three inches in the northern part of the state. Rain moving across the state will continue through the morning and into the afternoon, when it is expected to become a mix of snow and rain as temperatures begin to cool, said Lee Robertson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly. Far western areas of the state in Sussex County and northwestern Passaic County will likely see the most snow, Murray said.
As temperatures drop around sundown, rain is expected to become all snow across the state, Robertson said. Coastal areas will see mostly rain and less than an inch of snow in the evening, while areas along the Delaware in Burlington and Salem could see around two inches of snow.
Central and northern counties, including Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Morris, Warren and Sussex are expected to see between two and three inches of snow, with some northwestern areas possibly getting up to four inches, Robertson said.
The snow is expected to taper off after midnight. Temperatures overnight will be in the lower 30s in the south and in the low to mid-20s in the north, Robertson said.
