Working smoke detectors are credited for helping a Lakewood family escape their home unharmed during an overnight fire.
The Williams Street family was awoken by their smoke alarms around 4 AM after some clothing leaning against a water heater and furnace caught fire, police say.
The home quickly filled with smoke, but the family managed to escape just in time.
All of Lakewood’s fire stations were summoned, along with the FAST Team from Brick, but the fire was quickly contained.
A 15-year-old was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, police said, but he was released a short time later.
