nj state forest fire service lfd tlsIn case you were wondering what the smell of smoke around Lakewood is from, it’s from a prescribed burn taking place in Manchester.

The burn is taking place in the Whiting section of the town, and being conducted by the Forest Fire Service.

Elderly people and people with health conditions are recommended to remain indoors during such events.

  1. A Controlled burn is a forest or brush fire that is set in a specific area by Ocean County and NJ State forest fire services and they watch it burn. This is done to burn (clear) underbrush after a few years of growing to help prevent forest fires in the future..Each area is done every now and then every couple of years to try to control the wooded areas from getting out of control during wildfire seasons..like what happens frm april to october..and sometimes beyond

  2. It is a good and necessary process to manage forests.

Better than to have an out of control wildfire that can lead to tragedy.

In the past, NJ has had a history of tremendous wildfires that led to loss of life and property

  3. Wouldn’t it be wiser to warn us ahead of time?!? many people in my neighborhood were caught unawares and were coughing while walking home from Shul.
