Bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Robert Singer (R-30) that would fund summer tuition aid grants (TAG) was passed by the New Jersey Senate.

“Whether students are catching up on credits or want to accelerate their path to graduation, the TAG program relieves some of the financial burden of enrolling in summer courses,” said Sen. Singer. “By making this critical funding available for students, we’re empowering them to reach their academic goals faster with less debt.”

Under current law, the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) is authorized to award TAG funds to qualified students enrolled in summer courses in an undergraduate program.

Senator Singer’s bipartisan bill, S-3602/A-4811, would provide $20 million in funding for the Summer TAG program to accommodate students who qualify during the summer 2025 semester.

Background:

• Students are eligible for TAG funding if they received a tuition grant in the preceding fall or spring semester, are enrolled in at least six credits during the summer semester and are continuing in the same undergraduate program at the same college or university as their previous semester.
• Eligible students can receive up to 75% of the full TAG award amount they would be eligible for during the regular academic year.

“For eligible recipients, the TAG program is a recipe for success, helping students stay on track, graduate on time, and enter the workforce better prepared,” Sen. Singer concluded.
