  1. My opinion is that girls schools should have days off on chanukah and during midwinter vacation.

However, they SHOULD have school through the end of June, as we pay tuition through the end of June. I never understood why schools end in middle of June, and then we pay for daycamp for the second half of June. (And lets not get started on the end of August situation.)

My opinion is that boys should also have off on chanukah and during midwinter vacation. Its bad enough they have to go to Yeshiva on Sunday, why cant these poor things get a few days off. You want them burned out so early?

Its my opinion. You asked for it, you got it.

  2. I agree with #1 on the June thing… But since the boys have school today (no english) I think the girls should have the same. Families can’t go anywhere without the boys in any case (not fair) and to have off half a day – is exciting and different – so it serves the purpose for vacation. And of course throughout chanukah there should be no homework!

  3. Ahh… Yid, a breath of fresh air!

    How about this jingle?

    Chanukah, oy Chanukah,
    A Yom Tov a shainah
    Bleim ahiem fun cheder
    Un mach Mommy mishigeah

    Forget latkes and dreidels
    leave them for another
    ice cream and cotton candy
    and spin your baby brother

I am working on it; contributions are more than welcome.

  4. since when shud internet news viewers/users have a say in what schools should do? these things are supposed to be left to the mechanchim that we trusted our children with

  5. Re: the month of June. Realize that you don’t pay for school “by the month”. You are charged for one school year’s tuition. The school provides a convenience by letting you pay the year’s tuition in 10 (or 11) monthly installments.

  6. girls dont have to light menorah and even if they want to watch their fathers theres no reason they should be off more than boys

  7. in eretz yisroel the girls have off the entire chanukah and the boys have off like the yeshiva gedolah’s, an “off shabbos” which includes wednesday or thursday plus friday and sunday. but we can’t give our kids off for chanukah? does that make sense?
