Shapiro’s Bakery Wholesalers: Post Pesach Bakery Products Demand; No Need to Take 6 Loaves to Freeze 5

after pesach 2015 tlsThe population in Klal Yisroel and Lakewood in particular has exploded over the past few years. The challenge for bakeries? To try to keep up with the demand for products and Rye bread in particular immediately after Pesach.

R’ Yisroel Meir Shapiro of Shapiro’s Bakery Wholesalers, suppliers of the Korn’s and Stern’s brand line tells TLS that “quite honestly, it is almost impossible to meet the demand the way things stand.”

Is there anything people can do to help? “Yes,” says R’ Yisroel Meir.

“Consumers need to know that Baruch Hashem we are not in a time of war or famine. People need to know that IY’H there will be plenty more bread on Monday, Tuesday and every day after that too. So instead of grabbing six loaves and putting five in the freezer (yes, that is really happening as ridiculous as it sounds!), take ONE loaf, and maybe two if you have a large family, and feel free to come back the next day for more. You will be really helping the situation.”

Shapiro says that despite literally working around the clock, it takes about two weeks to get back to normal and accommodate the market after Pesach.

  1. He seems to be showing the panic (unintended)
He should say yes there is bread for all although some years after pasach we empty shelfs it’s because people stock up …. we ask all not stock up the first few days so that we all can enjoy the fresh stuff…

  2. For those that need some extra sustenance until they can get as much bread as they would like – just mentioning that stores have great deals on Pesach cakes. You can get two for the price of one. You can’t beat that! And macaroons… ..the deals are just too good to mention on line…you got to see it to believe it.

  3. To yyp: thanks for informing me of the law which is meant to stop the practice called price gouging. I personally think that it is a stupid law, as it allows for some people to go hungry due to a lack of supply. If there are laws against price gouging, then there should be accompanying laws that ration the food supply during crises.

  4. yyp:

it’s not due to lack of supplies that the prices should be raised, it’s because people are taking six loafes and putting five in the freezer, like R’ Yisrael Meir said, rather the prices should be raised in order to prevent people from waistting five fresh loafes of bread while others come to buy just one or two and theres nothing left!

  5. Reb YM….thank you very much for what you and your employees did today. Of course it is extremely tough to keep up with the demand! Be happy that you have a product that everyone wants! We were in Monsey today at about 3pm and there was NO bread to be found. I just came back from shopping tonight and lo and behold there was you and your crew still bringing and stocking bread at 11pm!!! So while there will always be some sour apples out there, the hamon am really appreciate what goes into making this week happen. Yasher Koach.

  6. To just a person.
Seriously?? This is business not chesed. Trust me when I say the bakeries look forward to this time of yr to make a lot of money. & they’re fully entitled to. But let’s not thank them for helping us. They should thank us for supporting them which we do gladly. Like someone else mentioned to give business to a yid.

  7. @anon hakaras hatov doesn’t mean that the guy did it completely 4 u! U have to have hakaras hatov to ur employee/employer also even though he/she is making money too!

  8. Bakeries did not make one penny during Pesach season. So now they make up for it a little? Good for them! And yes, I have lots of hakaras hatov. Even though I pay.
