Many Lakewood area residents are experiencing power outages this evening as a powerful storm swept through the area.
The storm began approximately 7:30 PM with large hail in some areas, then switching to strong winds and rain.
Residents are reporting downed trees, wires and poles, along with damaged property as a result of the storm.
“There are trees and wires down on roads in the area,” Police Chief Greg Meyer told TLS. “Avoid heading out unless absolutely necessary. Never attempt to approach downed wires.”
There are reports of a possible tornado touchdown in Howell as well as in Jackson.
Over 15,000 residents in Ocean and Monmouth counties without power, including over 9,000 in Jackson and over 4,000 in Howell. Estimated time to restoration is 11:30 PM.
UPDATE: JCPL has now removed the ETA to restoration, as they attempt to restore power to approximately 20,000 customers.
