Lawmakers in New Jersey’s Democratic-controlled Senate are planning to advance a plan to tame the nation’s highest property taxes. But it’s not certain the state Assembly will go along. Senate President Stephen Sweeney says the Senate will approve a plan later this week that caps spending and property tax increases at 2 percent. It’s the compromise he and Republican Gov. Chris Christie announced Saturday.
Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver wants to meet with Democrats in the Assembly on Wednesday before announcing a position on the new proposal.
The Assembly and Senate passed a 2.9 percent cap last month, but Christie mocked that plan for its many exemptions and said he wouldn’t sign it. AP
Perhaps they should be made aware of our Lakewood Real Estate tax abuse, massive increase. Some Lakewood members received a 33% increase. Of course ONLY after the controlled elections!! It appears, that Lakewood Tax committee grabbed the opportunity to raid the Lakewood residents, they tax them to pieces, send preliminary bills to GRAB as much as taxes as they can, before its capped by State Law. What a Shande and a disgrace this is. Where are our politicians?? Where is our Mayor? Instead of defending this Shande with alleged clever writing letters with Boich Svorros, explaining how the taxes were calculated., and how fair the system is… it’s time they grow up, and stop the politics, and get down to real business. 20%, 25% and what I received 33% tax increase, is a tax abuse, it appears to be illegal.
NJ State wants to cap at 2% or 3%, and Lakewood raids its inhabitants with 30% increase?????????? Our we going to be stupid to pay that?? Maybe there should be a TAX STRIKE until this numbers come down to more of a realistic number. We should form a committee to get REAL justification of what’s going on,,,not political double talk…. double talk is for THEM before elections… now we need the truth.. any comments please write to me, (moderated), thank you… from a concerned Lakewood homeowner aka as a tax payer, who believes he is paying more then his believed share to be…
