Police tell TLS that aside from the many citations issued over the last few days, Lakewood Police have arrested at least two people after being stopped for the seatbelt violation.
The arrests were for a warrant, as well as for CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance).
Not yet counting today’s numbers, Lakewood Police have issued 87 citations since beginning the National Click it or Ticket campaign Monday, police say.
keep up the great work lpd
How about ticketing hand-held cell phone using drivers? It would generate lots of revenue for Lkwd and perhaps reduce the vehicular mayhem on our streets. Just a thought.
Where are they setting up shop today
just wear your seatbelt and it dosnt matter where they are doing it !!!!!
the police ARE doing the right thing
1. gave advance warning
2. giving tickets
3. providing the public with the statistics, to gain media attention
to make money they would just do #2.
Welcome to the soviet union!!
Just wear your seat belt…ever consider that idea?
keep up the good work !
Mr. Anon. Please enlighten the scoop readers as to how the click it or ticket campaign is comparable to the former Soviet Union. Better yet, don’t bother because it won’t make any sense. Is it so hard to appreciate the police officers who do their job?
While I wouldn’t compare it to the soviet union, it definitely is anti-democratic. Whether I wear a seatbelt or not should not be the business of the government. It affects no one but the person not wearing the seatbelt, and that should be a personal choice each individual should. Make for themselves. It should not be dictated by the government
Are you for real? This is America the land of opportunities – how would you have any opportunity if you were critically injured or dead. We have a government that protects its people – if you are too stupid to use your own brains then the government has to come in and provide safety measures.
#10.you may be onto omething BUT then if you are in an accident and are hurt or injured because you were not wearing a seatbelt…you should not be able to get the insurance $ .
Okay captain obvious how would your family feel if you we’re killed in a crash where a seatbelt would have saved your life had you been wearing it?
No 10
well said.
No 11 why is this the only law regulating personal safety?? I can think of a lot of other things that are dangerous that should be outlawed. Like drinking 20 oz sugary sodas. What happened to that law?? Oh a judge knocked it down.
One more point. It’s soviet union because they’re looking to trap people. That’s just what the KGB did.
#11
That would be a terrible tragedy but….
Still not the Governments business.
yes,
wearing a seat belt should be a personal choice since it affects the only the driver. (leave the family out of it for now).
but the law of not talking on phone or not yielding the right of way or doing any number of dangerous things – should be strictly enforced! or this drivers should be taken off the roads.
maybe it will make driving in lakewood a little more pleasant!
Ok, “stop crying”, I agree that seat belts for children should be enforced since they are not able to make their own rational informed decision but it makes no sense to go after adults. should we ticket any adult who snokes or eats fast food or is sedentary so that he will be around for his family? What about someone who risks his life climbing a 500 foot cliff, or goes on a survival hike in the desert, or surfs 30 foot waves on the ocean. I don’t understand why someone would risk his life in these fashions, but as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else, and he is making an informed decision, I don’t see why the government has any business getting involved.
#11 you are correct. This is the land of opportunity. The land where you have the opportunity to do something stupid if you so wish so long that it affects only yourself. That is what freedom is.
quote “What about someone who risks his life climbing a 500 foot cliff, or goes on a survival hike in the desert, or surfs 30 foot waves on the ocean. I don’t understand why someone would risk his life in these fashion”
these thing are nothing compared to just driving through Lakewood ,life is only worth living when you take on challenges ,not just being an observer
I tell all of you something why don’t you try going by one of those officers during click it or ticket without your seatbelt on, or on your cell phone and see what the government has to say about it then!!! It’s the law and has been a law for a long time and is now the law for everyone in the car to wear their seatbelt wether it be the front or back seat. So all this crying about it won’t change anything, the law was only made tougher so get over it and buckle up freakin cry babies!!! Drinking a 20 oz soda or juice or whatever has not been proven to kill anyone but hit tree or telephone pole at 50 mph without a seatbelt on and see what happens!!! Talk to me then, oh I forgot you probably won’t survive that, but I’ll be sure to send your loved ones my condolences!!!
Mr stop crying this is a philosophical discussion. When I see the police I promptly try and put on my seatbelt. I won’t go by them without the seatbelt because I know by then the ticket is coming. All I’m saying is that its unconstitutional and KGB esk to deliberately try and trap people.
Why noy enforce thrsr laws all year long ? Only seems to get done on OT.
MOST PEOPLE WHO DIE IN CAR ACCIDENTS GET THROWN OUT CAR,FOR NOT WEARING SEAT BELTS.
To #17 should one get arrested for serving his/her child soda ? Since your giving gov. The authority to decide what’s best for your child they may just decide to do just that.
