School District In Final Stages Of Completing ‘Student Code Of Conduct’ For Riding School Buses

The district’s Transportation Committee is currently completing the final draft of the ‘Student Code of Conduct’ for riding school buses, Chairman of the Transportation Committee Isaac Zlatkin tells TLS. The Student Code of Conduct, prepared by Gus Kakavis, is intended topromote safe and orderly experience on the bus for all students, and will provide specific information regarding the conduct on the bus, Zlatkin says.

“The transportation department spends a lot of time every single day working out various degrees of discipline problems”, Zlatkin says. “This code will bring a consistency across the district in dealing with misconduct on the buses.”

Zlatkin says the code of conduct will also include “consequences of misconduct  and procedures for administrative discipline.” But adds, “ultimately the principles will decide the appropriate level of the disciplinary consequences.”

The committee meeting was attended by Board members Mr. Silver, Mr. Fink, Mr. Zlatkin, Mr. Seitler and the supporting personnel. TLS.

”ultimately the principles will decide the appropriate level of the disciplinary consequences.”

Then you should just throw it out the window now, the board should make a decision and it should be set in stone. Three write ups and the student should be suspended from transportation for X amount of days period. I would recommend a weeks suspension and after three suspensions the student should be denied transportation for the remainder of the school year. Maybe if they loose their riding privileges and their parents have to drive them them will learn to behave on the bus. I’m sure mommy and daddy don’t want the inconvenience of driving them.

I can tell you from experience you can write a student up 30+ times and the board and the principles still do nothing. There needs to be a blanket policy and discretion must be removed so that unsafe, disruptive or destructive students are removed that way driver and fellow students can have a safe and comfortable trip to and from school.

Will this be in the public schools alone, or also in the private schools? What about the bullying, fighting etc that takes place on the private school busses?

There must be monitors. It is a safety concern, and can be arranged with the insurance companies.

What about students standing on the bus and not listening to the driver to sit in a seat.

I’m just wondering about where you teach, since most schools would require teachers to have a working knowledge of grammar rules, and your striking lack of that knowledge is obvious from your writing.

Children that do not know how to behave themselves and/or cannot or will not take instructions regarding safety for themselves and others do not belong on a school bus. Bullying cannot be tollerated.

The children that have self respect, who respect the rights of others, and who understand good behavior will be liberated from the small number of disruptive students that choose to cause problems.

The new BOE is doing a great job.
