If your child still doesn’t have a bus route, he or she still may need to wait a while for that.
According to school district officials, only about 15% of the outstanding routes were picked up during yesterday’s bidding, leaving still dozens of routes not yet picked up.
The district, which has stated that the delay was due to a last-minute busing deal before the school year, will now proceed with direct negotiations with the bus contractors to try and fill the unassigned routes.
As earlier reported o TLS, those who are transporting their children are eligible for “aid-in-lieu” reimbursement. The amount is $4.91/day. One-way busing is half that amount.
To receive aid-in-lieu (reimbursement for transporting your child to school), you can call the district office at 732-364-2400.

Does anyone know how one applies for a in lieu? Is there a form to fill out and if yes how does one get that form? And where does one send the form?

it’s not the money I need, it’s the transportation. I have other kids coming home at that time and I have to make arrangements to be able to pick up my child from school. It’s draining. I wish the school would hire private bussing in the meantime and the board of ed can send them the money. Help. I need my child to be brought home.
It would be much appreciated if someone from the BOE would come out with a statement regarding some timetable, just to show that you care about all of us that sit in traffic, take off time from study, work, etc…
I called the above number and was told that they will give the forms to the schools to send home.

Maybe they will have to have boys and girls on the same busses to make routes profitable.
If I choose to pick up my 5 yr old because her bus ride home is over 1 hr long (and we live 5 min. away) am I still eligible fpr the reimbursement? Anyone know?
I don’t understand who decides which kid/route gets bussing and which one doesn’t. ?How can this be made fair for everyone? Also why can’t the schools get this aid in lieu and hire vans. If the cost for the vans is more than this aid due to the measly budget alloted for transportation wven though its about the only thing us private school parents get for our tax dollars,then charge every parent even the ones who got bussing to make up the difference. Just like i have to pay for my kids lunch even though he doesnt even eat it (and I don’t qualify for free lunch so im basically paying for some other kid’s whole wheat sandwich) No one wants to add to tuition I’m sure but it can just be in the meantime until the routes get picked up if they ever will. Ideally, however, why don’t we all just get a “major” tax break and use that money towards private transportation and private schooling.. Etc..I’m tired of not getting anything back from the thousands of dollars I pay in (income) and property taxes each year.

Hey Devorah, there is nothing free. Now you see how the free stuff is given, someone else contributes the money and you benefit. I don’t have any children so why should I pay for a school that I never used. You want a tax break for the courtesy busing you didn’t get, I want a tax break for the schools I never used!
To by me: why is your daughter getting bussing now in this bussing shortage crisis if you live 5 minutes from the school when my daughters live over 2.5 miles from the school and have no bussing? Btw, i know someone. Who got aid instead of transportation for a kid who was eligible for bussing but 5 minutes from their school. If you are legally eligible for bus you are legally eligible for aid. You probably have to go down to the boe and request the bus route stopped and aid instead going forward.
