School Buses Having Difficulty Getting Around, Frustrates Drivers

school bus mva central_wm(Photo of MVA on Central). There have been several reports this morning from frustrated school bus drivers not being able to get through traffic, especially in crowded developments. Please be advised that school buses require a lot of room when making a turn and parking too close to the corners or on both sides of the street, makes it difficult for them to maneuver themselves. There have been several MVA’s involving school buses over the last couple of days as well. They are taking your children to school.

  1. I agree, and feel that the school buses shouldn’t drive under these conditions.

    1. No matter what the Mayor says, the roads are NOT clean. It’s no chidush that the bigger roads are clear, they are easier to plow, and more driven on. In west gate the roads are still packed with ice and snow. If we would put down salt, then they would have been clean days ago.

2.The board of Ed wanted to cancel busing yetserday but had tremendous pressure from the schools. Howell and Toms River canceled school yesterday.

All this could have been avoided if we would have just salted right way. Something needs to be corrected.

  2. A big Thank You to all the school bus drivers. I can imagine the frustration you have driving around a big bus between cars not parked even close to the curb.
However even though you are Bigger, You do not own the road. I have seen to many buses today playing chicken with cars. It is dangerous.
We really appreciate you taking our children to school, but if u kill us we cant have more kids for you to take.
    Thank You

  3. There shouldn’t have been school yesterday the roads were terrible. A school bus with a bus load of kids got stuck in Chateau Park and people had to dig him out. There is no excuse for these driving conditions four to five days later.
Thank you dear bus drivers for taking our kids to school, I wouldn’t want the responsibility of driving kids to school under these circumstances.
Public Works should not be able to get away with these excuses.

  4. Public & Private schools should be on the same schedule. Snow, Ice, Road conditions effect everyone. Once the Board of Ed says no busing, then all schools should close. SAFETY…. Its the Private schools that put pressure for busing. Common sense stay off the roads and they will get plowed correctly. I don’t understand if these schools get board of ed money and board of ed closes the schools and stops busing how can they remain open…causing more problems
trying to use cars to get everyone to school or making kids walk in slush or climb over snow bangs….its madness… Public works did a great job…but with cars parked down the side streets…only so much can be done…the other schools closed for a reason…SAFETY

  5. I remember a winter many years ago, when there was so much ice, there was no bussing for a week (the weather was below freezing for over a week), but the schools were open and parents had to get their children to school anyhow. Of course, since there were less schools and less children it wasn’t as hard to navigate the town as it is now. (but, it wasn’t easy either)

  6. Dear neighbor, now that the dpw cleared the roads 3 days after the snow stopped, and we are back to having bussing, please shovel your walk so my kids can get to the corner in a safe manner. They did their job eventually, now you do yours.
    Thank You
    You can borrow my shovel!!

  7. This is the result of years of terrible planning and giving developers free rein to do whatever they want so they can make money while everyone else suffers. Its only getting worse from here.

  8. When we were kids we walked a few blocks to even catch a bus…. what happened to the old 2 mile radius…I know the public kids walk in a lot of cases, why does everyone have to be bused a few blocks…these new developments are so tight even for cars… these kids need to walk out of the developments…not get door to door service… We are a few years away from total traffic congestion…like New York…

  9. my how the tone has changed…just a few days ago on another article i tried to explain that the roads were not safe for cars or BUSES, but i was told to just do MY JOB and drive your children, now we are seeing the bus accidents and the difficulty to maneuver buses down the much narrower snow packed streets safely, I WONDER HOW MANY SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENTS HOWELL AND TOMS RIVER HAVE SEEN?, this is just another example of the nonsense that goes on with lakewood’s school busing, none of the nonsense here happens in other towns but thats a laundry list i may share with all of you another day
