PHOTOS & VIDEO: No children were aboard a school bus when it burst into flames today near the Lakewood High School. At about 2:45 PM this afternoon, during dismissal, the school bus burst into flames on Brook Road, but no children were on board at the time, an official tells TLS.
The Fire Department extinguished the fire, which consumed much of the front half of the bus.
The driver made it out safely.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. TLS-CCP.
is the driver safe?
Why didn’t the rubber tires melt??
Maybe this bus blew up due to the rediculous 3 minute idle warm up time. This is a large vehicle that needs time for the oil to circulate throughout the very crucial parts of the engine. Remember this is the blood of any vehicle, be prepared more buses will start blowing up. Do you get in your own personal vehicle and go???? I bet you don’t.
So keep it up, all of you white colar six figure people with all these laws that are being implemented, safety first always. AND THIS IS NOT SAFE TO GET IN AND GO…..
Nevertheless we are freezing too driving, we should at least be comfortable behind the wheel of a 30,000. lb., machine.
And last but not least thank God nobody was injured.
The driver is safe, a little shaken up, but she is safe.
that;s was so sad we saw them putting it out i go to lhs (lakewood high school)
why do buses cover the vents at the front? its definitely dangerous
The tires didn’t melt because it looked like the fire was high in the engine and didn’t come in contact with the tires for too long. I hope there was no kids on the bus and if there was they all got out ok. This is a perfect reason for the kids to know how to jump out the back of the bus like they do for bus drills. This is why it is so important to have them and teach the kids how to get off a bus that is on fire or something in the front.
#3: Sounds like time for a career change, dontcha think?
#6: They help the engine warm-up in cold weather and prevent wind from causing the condensation on the radiator to freeze. A little knowledge is much more dangerous (hint).
number 2 heat rises
#2 heat rises
There were no children on board, the bus was empty.

theres a reason why theres a grate in the front not so you should cover it unless you think your smarter then the manufacturer!

If the bus is not maintained properly and the engine thermostat is not working, blocking the radiator is the only way to get the engine up to temp and get heat for the driver and passengers, just sayin.
