School Bus Accident In Westgate Causes School Bus Traffic Jam

VIDEO: Hundreds of children were left waiting for their school buses this morning after a school bus struck a van in Westgate, causing a multi-bus backup. The accident occurred at the intersection of Northcrest and Radin at about 8:35 AM when a school bus attempting to make a turn, struck a stationed minivan, according to a bystander.

Nobody was injured, but close to a dozen school buses were backed up for about 20 minutes, leaving hundreds of children waiting for their ride. TLS-Submitted by HRS.

  1. When will the builders learn the roads they build are TOO narrow!!! Can you imagine if any other emergency occured there would have been chaos!!! Wake up people.

  2. I agree with #3 I live in West Gate, and for the most part, the streets do work. The white van was not parked properly, and the bus may or may have not been at fault. Point is, this was unusual.

  3. seems like the bus shouldn’t have turned, until the van was clear of its path. but then again if the path is blocked by parking on both sides of the street then you can only blame the ones who let such a situation exist. and then the notion that so many buses are needed for one area at the same time seems like curtsey busing to me. once again the things the town does/did/continues to do is coming back to bit them.

  4. THE WHITE VAN WAS NOT PARKED- IT WAS TURNING. IT IS CLEARLY THE BUSSES FAULT, HE WENT INTO THE OTHER LANE. I WAS THERE. THE PICTURE YOU ARE SEEING IS AFTER THE DRIVER GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO ASK PEOPLE TO CALL THE POLICE. BTW IT TOOK OVER 20 MINUTES FOR THE POLICE TO RESPOND.

  5. I was there and stuck for MORE than 20 minutes, if people would STOP PARKING where it CLEARLY states NO PARKING ON THIS SIDE these things would NOT happen. If the cop that responded would have gone one block up he could and should have ticketed 20 cars, along with the half dozen or so cars that were parked ILLEGALLY on North Crest.

  6. G-D forbid this was a really emergency and a fire truck had to get to the fire how does that fit into these small narrow roads. wow what a mess

  7. I think it is about time that ALL the streets in West Gate should be made into “ONE WAY” streets this will eliminate automobiles driving down the street speedingly trying to beat out a school bus. Many cars are now parking in areas designated “No parking this side” making the road tighter. Another major problem developing are cars being parked right on the curve making it extremely difficult and hazardous making turns in a large vehicle. I wonder if the van driver always goes down that street. If so, then doesn’t the driver realize busses come down that street? So why go against them coming out? An accident born to happen.

  8. buses can no longer drive down streets to pick children up. The district should have staging area’s for pick up and drop off.
When will the district learn, never

  9. look at where the car is and look at the cars in front of him, this was some bad turn. We can always blame the bus driver but it appears to me it was the driver’s fault

  10. The planning and zoning board need to made aware that the people are not going to allow rubber stamping every application….. Whispering Pines a disaster, Villas, Westgate… They would like to put townhouses everywhere….. It must stop!!

  11. A community the size of West Gate needs to have a sensible plan for the peck-up and drop off of students.

Parking ordinances should be strictly enforced, and offenders need to be issued summons. Here again, the builder failed to provide adequate parking, Now you need to deal with the mess.

If members of your development fail to deal with the issues at hand, some day you will deeply regret not having done so when you could have. There needs to be a moratorium on wavers and variances, in order to protect the future residents. If this is not done, they will suffer the same fate as you.

  12. Theres talk about putting townhouse all over Ridge and Brook road behind White/Red Oaks…. Imagine Brook Road with an additional 250 people with bussing…. Its not zoned for it but they are trying to stuff it down the neighborhoods throat….It came to the zoning board twice and it went nowhere and they are trying a third time. This must stop and they should show some respect to the taxpayers…..

  13. Now if the cop would of ticketed all of these cars there would be nothing but negative comments for the police. Shouldn’t they concentrate on “serious crimes” and not “petty offenses” <—– sarcasm

  14. Does anyone know what the story is regarding the white car in front of the minivan?

If it was parked, that person may be held partially responsible for this accident. 1- You are not allowed to park more than 6 inches from the curb. 2- You are not allowed to park within 25 feet from the corner/intersection. If that car was parked during this accident, they are surely breaking these laws.

  15. Its a Murphy Bus, big deal, but there must be a dozen or so buses backed up waiting for kids……..wow must be so much wasted money on that one.

  16. If what some people are saying about the van turning is true, shouldn’t he/she have been yielding to the school bus anyway? After all, the van had a stop sign, and the bus did not. After stopping at a stop sign, you may proceed only once it is safe to do so. Large vehicle such as the school bus take very wide turns. You can’t simply turn, because another vehicle is turning. I have seen countless near accidents like this. Sadly, these drivers weren’t as lucky.

  17. why is it the districts fault? the township allows these neighborhoods to be made with narrow streets and g-d forbid the poor children have to walk more than 5 feet away from their front doors. thats why we have a bus stop on every corner in this town..

  18. Lets go back to the way it used to be, bus stops on cornors. If you lived in the middle of a block you were sent to either end of the street for your bus.Sure there were more than on child waiting but it was much safer than a bus coming down every road. The children learned how to wait for the bus safely. My children waited for the bus in rain, snow and it didn’t hurt them.

  19. someone needs to go back to driver’s ed and I don’t mean the cliffs notes version either. Road test to get a license is a joke. These are the results. Mayor Miller our town is unsafe to drive in. Great job with the street lamps, now what about safe streets driving wise? Please

  20. I agree I have been saying this for many many years. Bus Drivers cater to much to parents who don’t want to leave there house to go get there kids for the stop down the block.

  21. @ # 29 Not all of us do that, I for one stop at the corner not in front of someone’s house, nor do I go into streets or develo[pments that the BOE says not too, but I do see bus companies that do and when I have a stop where your supposed to pick up and drop off at the corner and another company doesn’t , I get parents that say well this company goes in there and my response is the BOE says no and the person that signs my check says no, end of story.
