The Rite Aid on Kennedy Boulevard in Lakewood has shut down.
A sign on the door states they have shut down, and online it states “permanently closed.”
Yesterday, the company announced it would be closing 63 of its stores, though it’s unknown if this is one of those 63 scheduled to close over the next few months.
CVS also recently announced their were closing hundreds of stores nationwide.
It’s a shame; they were the only pharmacy in the area whom carried the Moderna Covid Vaccine, I got vaccinated by them, I get my flu shots by them; I planned to get my 3rd Covid shot or booster by them after New Years, now I’ll have to go elsewhere.
The Rite Aid chain has been owned by Walgreens for the past 6 years; for years Walgreens had planned to Close all the weak Rite Aid’s and the profitable surviving Rite Aids will become Walgreens.
All of these large Pharmacy chains are not very profitable. They have large stores open long hours with a tremendous amount of employees on the payroll, most locations are leased thus they pay tremendous Rents for those large stores. They need to be constantly busy to make a decent profit of which many are not.
I use a small owner operated pharmacy for my medications as I get better personalized service, better name brand medications etc as most pharmacy chains use their own generic brand of medications.
Gee I wonder why
Will this give us a bigger Glatt Bite?
