Ride4Chesed Ride Exchange – A New Whatsapp Group

whatsapp[Reader-submitted] Need a ride to a location out of Lakewood, or want to offer a ride to/from Lakewood? Rather not drive by yourself to a wedding in Williamsburg? Do your kids want to visit their aunt in Far Rockaway for Shabbos?

Need to send a cake to a vort in Flatbush tomorrow night?

Wish you knew someone who was driving there anyway? Well Finally… RIDE4CHESED is the answer!!!

Within the first five days of its launch, RIDE4CHESED grew to 175 members! A whatsapp group can only hold 256 members, so if you’re reading this and would like to join, you’d better do so quickly. It’s absolutely astonishing to see all the people OFFERING rides all day long, flexing their chesed muscles in circumstances that never even dawned on them before! People often think that they have to join major philanthropic organizations to do chesed or volunteer hours and/or contribute funds they don’t have to perform mitzvos. But now, just by having a smartphone & simply joining this whatsapp group you can MAKE CHESED A HABIT by being mindful of your daily routine and choosing to offer someone else in our own community a ride to WHEREVER YOU’RE GOING ANYWAY! No need to go out of your way (unless you choose to). Some rides are one timers and others become regular chesed buddies. How great is that?

  1. How does one ensure their safety by taking a ride with a complete stranger?! The days of appearance meaning anything are over! I think there has to be some kind of vetting before allowing someone to join the group….

  2. Sounds like a beautiful idea. Parents, just a reminder, always be smart and careful before sending your child anywhere in a ride. These groups can be an easy way for someone looking for an easy target to find one cv. Make sure you do your research before sending your most precious cargo anywhere…a free ride isn’t always “free”. Of course most people are out there to do genuine chesed, but just a reminder that in today’s world you can never be too careful.

  3. I came on this group to simply give you all a heads up. We have been running many chesed groups on whatsapp for quite some time encompassing business, chesed and ride share etc. We found that when a link was initiated it made its way around and many unsavory characters, to say the least, joined the group. We have had to close down groups because of that. Now its one thing if its business however in a ride share group you have to be extremely careful. Maybe have a questionnaire go out for prospective candidates insuring at the very least the members are frum. Hatzlacha

  4. The link is currently unavailable as the group admin is working on a safe, secure and efficient way of running this group
    Thank you for your patients.

  5. Whatsapp is a terrible thing for us an total waste of time. Besides all the dangers of strangers offering rides… this is an insane idea and I hope it’s a total failure.

  6. What an awful lot of negativity in these comments.
Obviously, people shouldn’t send their children anywhere with strangers. A whatsapp group is still a nice way to make connections that could be very helpful to people. Kudos to people who try to do chesed…
