Yesterday, we posted the gun challenge from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, which challenged viewers to pick the real gun from the fake ones. This morning, the OCPO released the results.

“49% Made the wrong choice,” the OCPO said. “Those who chose #6 (51%) made the right call. However, the majority of those who commented on why they chose #6, after examining the pics on their lighted screens, cited they made their choice based on the clip (magazine) that they could see at the bottom of the gun grip. Do you really think this would be visible within seconds in the dark of night with a hand wrapped around the grip?”

The OCPO added, “In viewing the discussion on the pollcode view link it’s clear that a majority concede the pellet guns’ similarity to real firearms present a significant problem for law enforcement.”

For those who propose shooting extremities or warning shots, says the Prosecutor’s Office, this is not an option. The NJ Attorney General’s guidelines on the use of force forbid it. Besides, gun shot wounds of any kind can easily bring death, whether it’s a gunshot wound to the leg striking a major artery which can easily cause a subject to quickly bleed out or a bullet ricocheting off bone traveling thru the body striking major organs, During classroom and range training, those in law enforcement get a comprehensive understanding of the extreme dangers handguns pose.

The sad reality today for those in law enforcement is simply this: “The only way to be 100% sure is to commit to taking a shot before returning fire.”
