Residents Feeling & Hearing Loud Bangs Coming From Fort Dix

UPDATED: Many residents today are feeling and hearing loud bangs in their homes, but there is nothing to worry about. Police say they have received calls about bangs which sounded like an explosion, some even shaking homes. One resident tells TLS “It felt like an 800 pound person jumping on my roof”.

However, officials say the noises are coming from the Fort Dix Army Base, where they are currently conducting ‘bomb testing’ of some sort. TLS.

UPDATE: Following the above report, the Township sent out the following alert:

The United States Army is currently conducting training at the Fort Dix Military Installation in Southern Ocean County. There is no need for alarm. Loud explosions and vibrations may be felt. The public is not in danger.

Probably mortar practice. When the wind is right the sound can carry for miles.

#1 you are probably upwind of the firing range.

Hey.. to all those folks living in noisy houses: This is just a sign that you should’ve invested in better soundproofing. It never pays to go the cheap way. Check out my website 🙂

Our whole house shook a few times today. It was loud. I know they do these tests at the Fort from time-to-time. No big deal.

The explosions are “just tests” and “not to worry”?

Oh, ok…just explosions.

Well, what are they releasing or testing. They already know they can blow things up.

What is the story behind this superficial story.

We want the Who, What, When, Where, and Why, of the story.

I live in Lakewood, and this seems to happen every Friday-Sunday throughout the spring and late winter. This is extremely alarming for people in leisure village, a 55 and over community, and goes on from early morning and continuing on till nightfall. This is an older post, and today is April 5th 2014. Wish they’d limit it to a few hours in the afternoon. I mean geez, this started at 9am this morning.

It sounds like a war zone around here lately. They are at it since 7am today and all weekend. It is constant boom, boom, boom. I even brought my cellphone out to my porch and my friend could hear the explosions over the phone. Maybe someone should let us know something…like what and why are we testing? Do we have something to worry about?

This is ridiculous. Every weekend this is going on and sometimes it rattles the walls. Obviously no one knows why and where this is happening. Living in Lakewood its getting on alot of people’s nerves and it shouldn’t be allowed every weekend. Sounds like the 4th of July. If someone knows what this is, please leave a message. Its probably coming from one of the bases west of here and I can only imagine what it sounds like in whiting.
