A resident in the Negba Street area managed to prevent a break-in last night, but the perpetrators got away. It was about 10:00 p.m. last night when a resident walked out of his home and witnessed a young man peeking into basement windows. Upon seeing the resident, the perpetrator fled along with a second man who was waiting for him.
Police and LCSW were called and immediately responded to the area, but not before the perpetrators got away.
Both men, one Hisapnic and one African American, were described to be in their teens.
“Please notify people to lock their windows and keep lights on inside their homes, and especially outside – both in back and fronts of the house” a Negba Street resident tells TLS.
are these the same chayas who beat up the yungerman on lawrence and 9th? maybe there should be some more patroling if these guys are out on the loose looking for trouble.
NEIGHBOR’S NEED TO START GETTING TOGETHER AND COMING UP WITH A PLAN TO KEEP EACH OTHER’S HOMES SAFE.
DONT BE AFRAID TO PEEK OUT THE WINDOWS EVERY NOW & THEN AT NIGHT TO JUST SEE WHATS GOING ON. STEP OUTSIDE ON YOUR FRONT STEP PRIOR TO GOING TO SLEEP AND JUST LISTEN FOR A FEW MINUTES FOR ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY.
Mr. Conservative I think you need to read the rules you do not need to yell at everyone! You give a lot of advise maybe to much?
ATT rEaD tHE ruLES:
WHO CaReS !!!!!
Mr Conservative is correct. The police officer told me if more resident would keep their lights on and check up on what’s going on around their block a few of these thugs will run off or get caught and word would get out to stay away from that specific area. NEVER approach directly the thugs. As young as they are they could be carrying guns- even a 13 year old. If you see they are about to enter or commit the crime- SCREAM and scare them off to protect your neighbors.
Also time is important FIRST CALL 732.363.0200 and press 0 for dispatch – THEN call LCSW 732.367.1212
Block watches are very successful all over the USA in lowering crime.
“TLS encourages and appreciates healthy comments”
– Mr. Conservative encouraging neighbors to get together and become more vigilant is to much advice for you? The town is experiencing a rash in violence & vandalism, and gang activity- now is not the time to be tight lipped on any advice that could benefit the residents. so maybe its you who needs to limit your useless posts.
Why can`t atleast another 50 members join LCSW??
How about raising taxes and paying for additional street lights in all neighborhoods
—
oh taxes bad idea
how about more cops getting paid you let them build and build and never hired more cops
Anonymous said to call 732-367-0200 then press “0” don’t do that..call 732-363-0200 then ext “0” to call the Lakewood Police…they are there 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.
Those people are always there taking care of both the residents, police, fire & ems…they are the unsung heroes of Lakewood. Just a voice on the phone or the radio..They are the best in the area.
Likely the same teens from the Lawrence Ave. assault. They seemed to be staking out Lawrence Avenue and must have been disappointed that it was well lit and there were people around. They found a lone victim in the one dark spot of the block. Lights are a good idea for these vulnerable areas. Let’s keep our eyes open….
YOU ARE CORRECT LPD 732-363-0200 PRESS 0
IF YOU CALL 911 YOU HAVE TO THEN GET TRANSFERED TO THE LAKEWOOD TWP POLICE DEPARTMENT.
BY THE TIME YOU ARE SPEAKING WITH LPD THE SUSPECTS ARE LONG GONE.
CALL L.P.D. DIRECT – 732.363.0200 EXT 0
At this point the problem isn’t the amount of members. If people would call LCSW as soon as they see or hear something suspicious then there is a good chance the guys would be caught. LCSW will spend time searching for a suspect, LPD wont necessarily do that. Don’t hesitate to call if you see or hear anything suspicious. Pass along the number to all your neighbors, family, and friends. LCSW 732-367-1212
Mr. C is right if u want to be safe and keep ur family safe u have to take a few extra min to look around ur house and other residents and ur block to see id there is a car or other people walking around that you may not have seen before if u dont have time to do that u must not really care about ur family
Thank you everyone for your support.
my point is going to be enforced with this; [post #6, Hocker] – YOU DON’T HAVE TO OFFICIALLY JOIN LCSW TO PROTECT AND KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR BLOCK & YOUR NEIGHBORS!
LCSW provides a great roving neighborhood watch program, but you can do it yourself from the comfort of your own front & rear yard.
1. walk out, 2. look out, 3. listen out & 4. REPORT!
@ LCSW Member…what make u think that ur more pwoerful then the Lakewood PD saying that LPD wont seach for the suspect is a lie they would check the area and keep someone in the area until its clear and even then the would have a patrolman drive trough every once and while are u guy trained to take down the suspect or you guys just going to sit in ur truck look around then if u DO find the guy then call PD…by that time the suspect might be gone just call the PD before anything else if you think something is wrong
thers no reason why lcsw take on more members there are plenty of pepole that want to join but no we dont need thats not true just look at the crime in the last couple of weeks .
IT’S AN OPEN INVITATION TO CRIME, WHEN A PERSON DOES NOT LEAVE THE OUTSIDE LIGHTS ON, AND WHEN HOLIDAY COMES AROUND, THEN THE CAR IS GONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE AROUND AND PERHAPS A TIMER ON THE BACK OF THE HOUSE AND FRONT LIGHT may deter a situation, A night light , be left one in the downstairs, and two in an upstairs where light can be seen in the evening,
SHOULD you have two cars in the family, THEN MAKE SURE ONE IS PARKED DIRECTLY IN YOUR DRIVEWAY, OR CLOSEST TO YOUR HOME OR APARTMENT.
I have call both 911 and the Lakewood police direct they are both very quick and have had police show up within 2 to 3 minutes of my call, if you cannot remember the Lakewood number call 911 it is just as effective. And although looking out your door for a few minutes is an idea a better idea would be to have a STRONG police presence that would deter bad guys. During the school year while the buses are dropping off children in high point the police are very visible and it has proven to be very productive. 7 police patrolling a shift not so much!
Hey whats with all dese caps………oih vey……
Uncle Caps people are just trying to make a point. Maybe they don’t understand it is rude in the typing world.
well maybe they should hire more cops. On average, the Lakewood PD evening and midnight shifts have approximately 8-9 people working. That’s it 8-9 people. That’s very few for a town that has grown by leaps and bounds in the past few years, but the PD and Fire Dept has not. Lakewood is a city. If they had more cops, then maybe they could actually do proactive patrols instead of being reactive and only having enough cops to answer calls for service. Has anyone noticed there are no more bike cops in the neighborhoods. I can remember for the past few summers the PD had bike cops riding through area such as high point, hearthstone and E. 4th Street. What happened to that?

I think you totally missed the point. LCSW is not more powerful then LPD nor did we ever claim to be. We are a civillian safety watch, and we have a great working relationship with LPD. What I said was, LPD wont necessarily spend the time searcing for someone, (depending on the situation) which is perfectly fine. They know how to do their job. The facts are, LPD would check an area for a suspect, If they don’t find them then they would clear. Very not often would they actually keep a unit in the area. Besides, even if they would keep someone around, they can’t use all their reources to find a suspect. That is where LCSW comes in, we are additional eyes and ears for the LPD. The law in NJ doesnt allow us to make citizens arrests, whenever we do find someone or see something suspicious we call it in to LPD.
My point was, If you see or hear anything suspicious obviously call it in to LPD 732-363-0200 At the same time call LCSW so we can get units into the area as extra eyes and ears, it definitely can’t hurt to have more people looking for someone or watching an area.
Lakewood Police – 732-363-0200
LCSW – 732-367-1212
@ LCSW Member i understand ur extra pair of eyes but like i said when you call for LWD by the time the patrolmen gets there it might be to late thats why Mr.C is right talk to ur fellow residents and do what Mr. C said to do
