Rep. Chris Smith Cosponsors Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk After Assassination

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) has signed on as an original cosponsor of legislation (H.Res.719) honoring and remembering the life, legacy, and leadership of Charlie Kirk following his horrific assassination on Thursday, September 10, 2025. The legislation, introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), is expected to be voted upon by the full House today.

“The assassination of Charlie Kirk is an unimaginable tragedy,” said Smith a senior lawmaker in the U.S. House of Representatives. “Charlie’s senseless killing is not only an assault on his strong political and moral beliefs and unrelenting reverence to constitutional principles—it is also an affront to the American values of civil discourse and respectful debate.”

H.Res.719 condemns the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk, thanks law enforcement authorities and first responders for their unyielding pursuits of justice, extends condolences to his young family, and memorializes his life, leadership, and legacy. The legislation calls upon all citizens to embrace American values and reject political violence in all forms.

“This legislation reflects the U.S. House of Representatives’ unwavering commitment to keep Charlie’s indomitable spirit, conservative values, and unifying messages alive in our country,” stated Smith.

“Charlie Kirk was a young, bright, articulate, and captivating citizen-leader, who loved America deeply and believed that our best days were still ahead,” said Smith.

“A fierce advocate for open dialogue and the power of ideas, he possessed a special gift for motivating young Americans, challenging them to debate during the signature ‘prove me wrong’ events of the organization he founded, Turning Point USA.

“In his name, let us recommit ourselves to emphatically rejecting and ending all forms of political violence, as well as continuing to practice our God-given rights to speak freely and responsibly.

“While those diametrically opposed to contrary views may attempt to silence others with whom they disagree, objective truth will always prevail.

“Rest in peace, Charlie Kirk.”

It was on Wednesday not Thursday. The Lakewood scoop should correct it.

This is coming from the party of “Love and Acceptance,” let that sink in. Charlie Kirk was murdered in the name of Love. And Josh wonders why people see him and the like as hypocritical clowns.

I, too, am confused about the extent of worship for this bigoted, racist and misogynistic person. It seems all too out of proportion for what happened to him. Yes, he was murdered in a terrible, reprehensible way, and we can understand the intense feeling of loss and outrage felt by white, conservative Christians. But so many others are killed every day in our country without a moment of silence or flying a flag at half-mast for them. And now his death is being used as a weapon to punish anyone who doesn’t agree with his followers.

Why do you assume that? Because he writes coherently, intelligently and speaks the truth? I concur with you, American Patriot!!

He wasn’t a bigot or a racist. He was murdered for talking to people openly and allowing them a place to have a dialogou. Something that in the USA hasn’t been allowed on college campuses in over 20 years. Why should we honor some bunch of gang members who killed each other?

When State Representative Melissa Hortman was assassinated along with her husband (and their dog) back in June, Trump made no acknowledgement of the crime. Why? Because she was a Democrat and the shooter was a maga fanatic, just like Tyler Robinson. Note: most of the political shootings in America are committed by conservatives.

American Partriot, Tyler Robinson was NOT Maga and there is plenty of political violence by both sides.

He never stopped supporting Israel. If there was any disagreement at all, it was that he didn’t denounce some of his old right-wing friends who were turning against Israel.

He himself remained pro-Israel and pro-Semitic until the end.
The day before his death he posted an interview with Ben Shapiro in which he was extremely supportive of Israel. The main topic of the interview was Charlie asking Ben to address pro-palestinian talking points in order to clarify the truth.

(Not saying I agree with everything he ever said. He was a Christian, not a Jew. But he had good conservative values and defended truth.)

He has said comments that many people
believe are racist though that does not justify killing him at all.

Making statements that he was racist without any factual backing does not make it true, I have never heard anything that can be construed as racist from this mans mouth
