[Reposted] In response to the recent burglaries around down, the Lakewood Police Department is going out of their way to ensure residents feel even more secure when leaving for vacation.
In an audio recording offering safety tips and announcing about increased patrol around town, Police Chief Rob Lawson announced that residents can leave their address and contact information with the police department, and police will conduct a periodic check of their residence to ensure it is safe.
To have your home checked on while you’re away, free of charge, call police at 732-363-0200, extension 5199, and leave your name, address, dates you will be away, and a contact number.

Please check on my house while I’m away until Monday. 145 Fake Drive; combination is C3689. There’s a lot of cash in there so I really need you to make sure you check. Thanks!
Really funny comment. People trying to help others why do you have to belittle what there doing?
I’m wondering if they can check on my home while I am NOT away?
Ted, not every joke is at someone’s expense. For example, right here, my comment above. Belittling the LPD was the last thing on my mind. So, regardless of whether or not you found it to be funny, please don’t attack me with your inaccurate perceptions.
#1- I actually stopped by your house and used the combination # that you provided to let myself in. There was no cash to be found however but I did see plenty of ‘items’ that may explain your attitude towards the Lakewood police.
I saw a guy with a flashlight going into my backyard on Friday evening. First I got a little nervous then I just hoped it was a police officer doing his rounds. Anyone know who that was, if it was indeed a policeman?
This is very kind of the police cheif. While im still a little skeptical at the ability of lpd. I had last week shabbos morrn i noticed 2 police cars in front of my neighbors house and 2 police officers searching the property so i went over and asked them if there was a specific reason they were searching this property only to be screamed at by one of the officers that he had already explained it to someone else who had also come to ask what was happening. (it turns out the house had a silent alarm that went off) In a time like this i dont understand how they plan to catch the robbers if this is how they treat the neighbors of houses being robbed.
This is my take on Munchies comment. I once read in a AAA magazine not to cancel your mail when you go away on vacation since you never know who might get hold of that information. Point being, there are potential drawbacks to divulging your plans. I think Munchies was trying to point that out in a humorious way. Certainly, neither Munchies, nor anyone else has anything but the utmost admiration for the LPD. Munchies- can you please comment whether my analasis is correct?
