Dear TLS, I am writing to you and all Lakewood residents in an attempt to see how wide spread the problem is and possible solutions. I am talking about the issue of noise from the ice cream trucks music jingle. Now most reasonable neighbors can just not notice it and if need be ignore the temporary nuisance.
I however live in close proximity to a large housing complex that has an attractive customer base for these trucks.
Typically, an ice cream truck will come down the block with the music on and serve customers and circle the block multiple times. On average it takes about twenty minutes for them to leave.
The only problem is that along comes another ice cream truck from another company and goes through the same routine.
This can go on and on all afternoon, and in to the evening hours as well.
While this may be an extreme example, I am eager to hear from other Lakewood residents about their experience, attitudes and possible solution . Most of all whether it makes sense to pass some township ordinance curbing noise from ice cream trucks. These types of ordinances were already passed in many towns across New Jersey.
Sincerely,
A Lakewood Resident
How about the strobe light and diesel busses running all hours of the day and late into the night. lasts alot longer then 20 minutes of the ice cream truck, not to be rude but get over it
Are you kidding me???? Wow!
You have got to be kidding me!!!!..you are complaining about this!!, I wish I had this much time on my hands. Lemme guess, you are the type of person that yells at children playing to loudly outside.
On east 5th all day please stop it.
Would you rather hear the kars for kids jingle?
My berocho to you is that for the rest of your life this should be the biggest problem on your head.
In my shule, the Cohanim started to sing it by duchening.
I prefer it to the new Lipa rap song.
Get over yourself.
my god man get a life it for kids wow
What’s wrong with school buses on a Sunday, building equipment, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, backing horns.traffic, congestion, Sirens,….its a city if you don’t like it move.
I yell at children playing loudly, but they’re my own children. I do, however, enjoy telemarketing phone calls.
i dont mind it, but it always manages to come around right after i finally put the kids into bed.my only request i that it can come around earlier and there shud b a rule as in ny to stop the music while taking care of customers, then it wudnt b as annoying!
wow #11 drop the attitude, my point was the ice cream truck is just as petty as the busses, im sure i been here alot longer then you, why dont you move ill even rent the truck for ya
Is the ice cream they sell Kosher? Just wondering…..
Hello everyone and thank you for your comments.
I kind of expected this reaction from most of you lucky people that live in well developed areas in town. Yes the occasional and temporary noise is easily tuned out and blends in with all the normal hum drum of city life. However what I am most interested to hear, is from those that live in mixed neighborhoods where the incessant noise can be become annoying after a while. It can become like a next door neighbor with blaring speakers at all hours. Does it bother you ? How do you deal with it ? Should the trucks be asked to curb the noise at least while serving customers ?
The scoop allows this article to be posted but my legitimate comments get moderated?? Seriously? An ice cream truck?
its for kids buddy relax
i heard it all now.
I have never seen a ice cream truck come at night time except for late in summer when its like 90 degree’s outside and tons of kids are still outside someone always has something to complain about it shouldnt be a problem unless youre trying to put your kids to sleep at 5pm which is ridiculous
wow, really, what;s next are you going to cry and complain that your neighbors car muffler is too loud? Get some ear plugs and realize even if you believe it’s true the world does not revolve around you, get a life and grow up geez!
Its a beautiful summer sound…..way better than YOUR KVETCHING!!!!!!!
It is annoying the first time. And it increases exponentially with each second the jingle continues.
I like to complain about the way people drive in Lakewood, the favortism, people not paying taxes, to many private elementary schools, the poor economy, lakewood scoop censorship, high gas prices, high taxes, busting my rear end 7 days a week to make a good living to pay for some ice cream from these ice cream trucks.
Oh yeah, I like to complain about people making such stupid complaints such as this.
GET OVER IT, THERE ARE WORSE THINGS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT!!!
ENJOY THE HAPPINESS AND SMILES THAT ARE ON THESE CHILDRENS FACES WHEN THEY ARE ENJOYING THE ICE CREAM.
FYI, SEVEN O CLOCK AND THATS NOT EARLY!
I preffer the days when the ice trucks used the jingles bells
Complain to the ice cream police and get me a Choco taco, they are scrumptious.
7:00 is early for most school-aged kids. In the summer especially kids are still running around outside.
Wow really ?? A ice cream truck ? This is something for the children..I am a mother and my kids love hearing the sound of the truck cause number 1 it gives them time to come in the house and get money…lol..but yea find something else more serious to worry and complain about IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN…..
They r having a ice cream truck asifa in the blue jays stadium this Sunday b there
There’s an ice cream truck owner that Davens for the amud in my Shul and he sings the ice cream song 4 Lecha Dodi – now that’s makes me (I) scream” – w/e he Davens 4 the amud all the kids line up ……….
I am not a fan of the trucks, in fact the driver in my area has an extremely hard time driving the truck, and regularly comes within inches of hitting the cars on the street while trying to turn around. My fear is for the kids safety and the property he will one day destroy. My other complaint is that there is no reason to drive around (playing that song at a high volume) at 9:30 / 10 at night. Children are being woken up by the trucks. If they could do their rounds safely and turn of the music by 8 that would be a nice change.
