Readers’ Scoop: Open Letter To Independent Candidate Akerman

Writing_letterDear Mr. Akerman.
It’s with great shock that we learn on the Lakewood Scoop that you plan on filling Mr. Singer’s seat. We the people are wondering how you can take over Mr. Singers seat. You are claiming to run independent of Lakewood politics and will bring down the high tax rate etc, but obviously you cannot be independent of Lakewood politics, when you are stepping into someone else’s shoes, especially when you get this offer from other township committee men, you are beholden to them.

So how can you now get past the politics?

What we the people need at this critical hour is: Honest committee men, who keep their word, who want to really work hard and bring down the tax rate, who go beyond politics and are out to help us the people.

You just lost my vote.

I hope you understand my concern.

  1. you couldnt of said it better , by joining the problem instead of trying to become the solution , your original intentions and who was behind it is put in doubt

  2. giving you the benefit of the doubt, you probably have little sense of how he can be effective. Being the outsider, lishmah, doesnt deliver any results (ask Yoni Silver). You need numbers. And the democratic way is to work within the system. If he is truly an independent thinker, he will be beholden only to the people, even people like you who didn’t vote for him.

  3. Do you have any “unfrum” people in lakewood who are able to represent us w/o being biased against us? If so let me know I would vote for them.
Until then I’m voting for “frum” candidates.

  4. Politics are politics. Unfortunately politicians claim they “owe no one” however there are numerous unofficial behind closed door deals made with those same individuals vying for our votes. What’s done in the dark, will come to the light. BTW, why can’t Hershel run for the seat?

  5. Your letter shows an obvious lack of understanding of the way the system works. A candidate is able to be the chosen candidate for multiple parties. This just shows a broader base. There are many small parties that nominate the same candidates of the larger parties: Conservative, liberal, green, libertarian.

It shows that the candidate has the support from multiple platforms. This is a positive, not a negative. The Republican Party in general represents lower taxes. This is Akerman’s main platform and it makes sense to broaden his voter base with the VOTERS that share his ideals.

  6. This town is not about Democrat or Republican. It would be dumb for him not to take the Repulican seat. I wouldn’t want someone who can’t use his brains to run the Township.
You take the endorsement without making any promises. Don’t turn down a few thousand votes just to be a smarty pants.

  7. #1 said it all……..I totally agree with him/her. He is still wet behind the ears and has a lot of awakening to do he does not know Lakewood like we old timers know it.

  8. Akerman never had my vote. Also Mr. Akerman in my opinion has nothing to show for. Hershel on the other hand got and gets involved getting things done. so Hershel I’m writing in for you.

  9. Wow some really poor reasons listed by others posting here as to why someone should or should not vote for a particular person. It should be based on their integrety, honesty, and will to carry out the will of the people they represent, not what religion you are .

  10. If Ackerman joins the existing team, he will certainly lose my vote – and many others as well. At the very least, many people will not turn out to vote at all, rightfully thinking, that he is just the same as the previous politicians working for the same insiders.

Moreover, if Ackerman joins the “group”, a significant number of voters will vote Hershel as a write-in – just to make a statement of displeasure. Do not discredit this – it could seriously split the vote and hand the Democrat their victory.

  11. To #5. There are definitely ppl in town not from your community that are fair, unbiased and knowledgable. Probably way more than Akerman. Look at Ray Coles. A perfect example of someone who has been great and fair to all sides. I rest my case.

  12. If you were fair you would tell them to put HH in your place. After all he put you in. He even was in front of satmar getting you signatures to be on the ballot.

  13. Isaac, don’t listen to ramblings on blogs. It has nothing to do with your religion. You are a fair and honest person whether you wear a yamoka or not.
Make your decision based on what you feel is best for the town because whatever you do there will be naysayers.

  14. The letter-writer makes no sense. What’s the dif which party he’s under. At least he’s honest ! If u don’t vote for him, ur nuts. He needs a plan ?! Ye, here’s the plan : stop wasting our $$ !! (moderated) What don’t you understand about that ?!!

  15. what the ppl need is: …….. thats exactly what mr ackerman is: honest…… what u said is needed and u definitely have my vote cuz u will be the right man for this 4 sure 🙂
