Reader-submitted: The Township needs to do something about this Intersection

overturn locust[Editor’s note: Accident referred to involved an overturned vehicle] I currently live off Vermont Avenue. I feel like monthly, or even more often, there are very bad accidents on this corner.

People who are not familiar with the corner don’t realize that only one street, Locust, has the stop sign.

Again this Morning (Thursday) another bad accident.

The township needs to do something.

locustI wish an article would bring light to this problem on this corner, Locust and Vermont. Every time I leave my house and get to this corner I fear I’ll be hit.

I was in a car accident on that corner and my car was totalled. Baruch Hashem noone was hurt. However at the tine it was only a 2 way stop sign and I had the stop sign. My car wasnt hit until I was basically thru the intersection proving that the individual that hit me was simply not paying attention.

I work in this area and pass this intersection multiple times a day. I’ve seen Manny many motor vehicle accidents here. I notice more and more if an accident happens it is usually very very bad a very high percentage includes a vehicle to over turn. It scares me. Something has to be done. The neighborhood is only getting more congested.

@maria-good point but the city doesn’t have to do anything, it’s the drivers responsibility. Maybe town could help but they don’t have to.

Perhaps they can approve a development right in middle of the intersection. That would stop all movement of cars, thereby eliminating potential accidents. Less accidents, more houses, win-win for everyone.

A stop light or four way stop signs would help. What would help even more would be to cut back the trees on the corner to improve the sight lines.

Isn’t it the responsibility of the driver to make sure the intersection is clear with enough time to cross?
If the other drivers are speeding then police enforcement is what is needed. Seems if you are taking a risk by crossing and hoping to make it, then you only have yourself to blame.

actually if you had the stop sign and you got hit in the intersection that proves YOU didn’t look before you crossed the intersection. so stop passing the buck and blaming all your problems on other people. if you have a stop sign you can’t go until the coast is clear. if you went anyway and got hit its your fault.

Making it a 4 – way stop is Ludacris it takes forever to get through that intersection now imagine if you try to put a 4way stop or traffic light there. The intersection has been fine for years..with the influx of traffic there is where the problem starts..Get off your Cell phones and Pay attention to the traffic. Watch what you are doing. Its easy
Sorry need to rant

Don't understand

I don’t understand how so many people can’t see a stop sign. Could it be that the drivers are not paying attention to driving?

pls help
